My wife and I will be driving from Houston to Austin on a Friday night and are looking to hit a restaurant with really good food on the way. We were looking at the Bastrop/La Grange area due to timing.

I see the "Roadhouse Bastrop" is supposed to have a really good burger. Is there anything else in the area we should know about?

You may want to post on the Austin board. They are MUCH closer to Bastrop and Lagrange than people in the Killeen/Temple/Waco area

Stop at the 1 Stop in La Grange. It is at the 237 exit off Hwy71. I eat BBQ there all the time and I eat a
BBQ at a lot of places. Brisket is awesome always, they will trim the fat if you wish. Get the SPICY CHIPS.
They are home made, fresh, and excellent. I am there at least once a week. If you want a sandwich or kolaches, go to Weikel's right across from the McDonalds off 71 west bypass.
