The OP is moving back to Tyler, and several commented on the city. How was my comment random? Tyler has plenty going for it, but i also know plenty folks that share that opinion about the area.

The randomness is that this thread is almost a month old, has been entirely good natured banter and "oh my I grew up next to your granny" type talk, then you roll in and drop the "they're arrogant and a sh**box" comments. So compared to the rest of the thread it was random as hell.

And you must have grown up in Gladewater (or something similar) and never left. Compared to other areas where I've lived in the state, Tyler ranks pretty far down the list when it comes to arrogant.

I guess it's ok to joke and look down your nose at folks that like good bbq but dress a little different than you, yet someone can't share a reasonable opinion based on some people i've had the displeasure of being around in that town. That said, I also met and knew plenty great people while i was at TJC. Most of them just happened to not come from Tyler...

My post was a little harsh, but whatever. I don't care about trashing hipsters, but my comment was just as valid.

For the record, i was born in Tyler and lived there briefly later on and also spent a lot of time there while dating an ex-girlfriend. I also grew up in Henderson, which is actually has more than its fair share of arrogant folks for a town of its size. Left East Texas over a decade ago, but maybe one day i'll make my way back and enjoy some peace and quiet.

I blame my angst on the Pirates in here. We never beat them in basketball while i was in high school. Ugh. I don't think many others did either, fwiw.

Edit: only sport Pirates were ever good in was basketball and soccer...except my senior year we sucked (basketball). But that's another story altogether.

Tree was #2 in state when y'all came to our house my senior year. We kept it close (single digits) all game, so moral victories and stuff. I think we got beat by 50 in Longview on senior night though. Daniel, Kodali, Salmon, and that ridiculous point guard were too much though. Just name-dropping so y'all know i know what i'm talmbout. Always had my best games in district against the Pirates, and atleast their players were somewhat respectful, compared to everybody else anyway. They and 'house knew how to ball, plain and simple.

that was my junior year and if i remember correctly we had to have a police escort just to walk to our bus. good times.

we had been good for a long while before that year. we had a senior-laden team that year and once they graduated we had another one the next year (my senior year). after my class moved on the bottom fell out of pirate bball.

pretty sure as much as we may have disliked him, the program quickly fell after the departure of rick flanagan.

That's surprising, for Henderson anyway. The bro and I were once stalked/followed home by some pissed PT fans after we won. Gotta love it. There was definitely a little rivalry there, albeit one-sided.

I had 3 varsity coaches in 4 years, and the last one was basically a drill instructor. He had a lot of success at Tatum afterwards and won state once or twice, so that sounds kinda like Flanagan. He taught us how to play D, if nothing else.

I thought it was out of left field, funny, and incorrect. But I didn't care one way or another. I had a basketball coach in HS (in Mt Pleasant in the mid-90s) that was a pretty sorry individual, so stories like this intrigue me.

From what I remember (or from what 22 told me) it was a good thing that happened. Friday ended up being a good fit for y'all Sr year.

Pirate how are you liking SA? My inlaws live in Bandera and we go there about once every 2 months. I wouldn't mind living in Boerne if I didn't have a good gig here in Marshall. Hope all is well.

Things are great! I absolutely love it here and finally living on my own. As much as I love my family, its kind of nice having that 6 hour space in between.
