Pappas Brothers is generally held to be the best steak in Houston. I've not been. I can tell you that damn fine steaks can be had in many many places though. Personal favorite, when not cooking my own, is Flemings.

If you're looking for a one off I'd go with Fogo De Chao

If you're looking for a regular monthly steakhouse/date night place I'd probably go with Pappas or Capital Grille.

Second for Flemings. Went a couple of weeks ago and had another great meal.

Live in Pearland and been to Killens a couple of times. Both times the steaks were just "ok". Won't be going back anytime soon.

The strip at Flemings. The filet at Pappas Bros. The ribeye at V&A. In no particular order.

Another vote for pappas. However after two visits to V&A I really was underwhelmed with their steak.

Hate to be "that guy" but feel like V&A quality has gone down. Still great, but not the best to me.

Only problem with Del Frisco is trying to eat with a boner. Tons of women in their. Cougars, pros, businesswomen, etc

V&A, Pappas, Flemings, Del Frisco, Cafe Annie (before it became RDG), Artisans, Capitol Grille, Mortons....smith & wollensky . In that order. Admittedly, I haven't been to Killen's to try their Kobe steaks which are supposed to be in an entirely different level.

of course a Prime steak in my cast iron trumps all mentioned above.
My main goal in life is to find a beer as cold as a woman's heart

I like taste of Texas and Brenners. I've been to V &A, so I'm thinking we will give Pappas a try.

Thought Taste of Texas and Pappas were both better than Flemings for steak. Green Beans at Flemings were fantastic though.

Taste of Texas is in a different genre from the other fine steak houses mentioned.

Love Flemings on West Alabama. Taste of Texas is ok, but a fine restaurant should not require you to visit a salad bar, nor admit patrons in shorts and a ball cap.

This, and while Taste of Texas is an excellent restaurant and one I enjoy from time to time, its country flare puts it at a sophistication level that is just not on par with some of the finer steakhouses in town.

I put TOT and for that matter the Sam Houston Steakhouse out on the beltway in a similar catagory as Saltgrass, Saltgrass and Sam Houston Steakhouse being just a shade below TOT.

You gotta get to TOT at like 4:00 or else you'll be on a 2 hour wait too.

I have to agree. Really like V&A but the last few times I have been the steak has been below their normal standard.
