Can anyone tell me what kind of bug this is in my grass? It's popped up in a couple different spots. Need to know if I should burn it all up and start over.

Get some Bifenthrin spray that you can hook up to the water hose.

Or maybe trails of frass (I still remember the term) left by something? Run your fingers down one of those leaves and describe the results

Felt like and looked like I smeared a bunch of mud.

Too low res to ID the larvae but their behavior of moving towards the tops of the blades and some look gooey suggests to me that they are infected with a baculovirus. That disease will likely take out the entire population naturally. If they get half inch or bigger and persist, any pyrethroid insecticide will clean them up.

Slime mold, not bugs. Stop your sprinklers
