Firing an AR feels like a small step up from shooting BBs. I shoot left handed and never even thought about shells flying around. The author is FOS and probably made up the entire trip.

You're entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.

He can be scared of an AR-15, that's fine. It's irrational but clearly he's made of softer stuff than even the elementary school-aged children of OB posters.

However, he's not entitled to his own facts. Such as claiming an AR-15 is louder than an average firearm (it's not- in fact, it's pretty average) for one. And I'm sorry but there's no physical way he was bruised by the recoil unless he's on so many blood thinners he'd bleed out from a paper cut.

One of the articles on the same website is about how civilians don't need assault rifles. It is written by a Congressman that served in Iraq. He has the same strawman arguments as all the rest.. but he a Dem from Boston so it isn't too much of a surprise.

My first centerfire rifle fired was a .25-06. I was used to the kick of shotguns but on this one, I got too close to the scope and got ringed. Didn't really hurt that bad but it did bleed and I still have a small scar. Anyway, I wasn't wearing ear protection (totally stupid, but that was the era) and along with the scope, the noise scared me a little. I put off firing those rifles for another 2 or 3 years (~12). I now strongly suggest firing something like a .30-30 first, obviously with ear protection. A little kick but no scope (usually) to worry about. Great step up to something like a .243 with a scope that will then seem like a .22.

My 14 YO daughter has been shooting a 20 gauge and my .270 since age 12(with me dove and deer hunting). Never a whimper from her.
