Just remember, the cobra bite is supposedly somewhat pleasant as you shutdown. The assorted African vipers, well, you might have ebola like symptoms.

We had to evacuate a great hunting spot in South Africa due to a very large, and very unhappy mamba. PH was sweating and stammering. He said it was 3 meters. Only time I saw the guy shaken up. We sat in the vehicle and sipped on whiskey for a few minutes before resuming.

The stronger hemotoxic pit vipers, like the saw scale viper.

The mambas are an elapid, so typically more nuerotoxic, but also a good does of hemotoxic venom to make you miserable as your respiratory system shuts down.

Yeah, but for some reason I'm hung up on the African poisonous snakes. Just the individual list of where AC is......6 different kinds of cobras, 2 different mambas, inbred rattlers, 5 headed vipers....you name it.


Australia has some nasty ones, but it's a shorter list of them.

Speaking of snakes, went to a winery in Arkansas with my wife this past weekend. The guide said Arkansas was the only state in the US that had all 5 types of venomous snakes native to North America. I was stuck, and couldn't get past 4. Had to google it later to verify.

I guess I should have known. I mean, he WAS from Arkansas.

You must have forgotten about the Slick Willie Spitting Trouser Viper.... Its known to be attracted to, and spit venom on, large pieces of blue fabric and anything else that moves....

I dated a girl some years ago when living in Austin whose brother had 11 of the most dangerous snakes you could think of. Gaboon (sp?), some Rhinoceros Viper thing, 2 Cobras, a VERY LARGE Diamondback named "Big Daddy", a mamba of some sort...... and others....

He had a coffee table with a big thick glass top set up as a terrarium/environment for a couple of them....

I was always freaked out over there.

When I broke up with his sister, I made every effort to make sure we were still cool. I had nightmares for months about coming home to find his pets in my house......

I am currently in the hottest hotzone in SL on the border with Guinea. I had a crazy 3 hour drive across the country this afternoon in the landrover. Saw some of the poorest people on the planet. I am sitting in a hospital that I had to have a fever check and wash my hands in bleach to gain entrance.

Go home tonight, hug your kids, and thank God that you live in the greatest country in the history of the world.

Also, I saw a herd of giant eland. That was pretty much awesome, and is far and away the high point of a very sobering day thus far.

There is some minor debate about garter snakes potentially being found in the extreme SE corner of Alaska. Game department I don't believe recognizes the anecdotal reports.
