Got a few pieces of granite from out new house we are building. Question is, what can you do with them?

These are from sink cutouts and extra 4" backsplash pieces.

Obviously I need a diamond blade to cut. But what about polishing the cut edges. Any advice.

We've used the sink cut outs to place our outside patio planters on in the past.

I used to use it as a cutting board, but it seriously dulls knives.

You can use them as a pastry stone. Apparently when you make pastries, you are supposed to do it on a cold surface. So you put the granite piece in the freezer then use it.

I have never made pastries and have no plans on ever making pastries. But if I ever wanted to, I have a stone for it.

Polishing the edges requires a polishing machine and pads. Start at 600 grit then work up to 6000 then buff. Takes forever.

Quick way...use an orbital sander and start at 80, then 120, then 240, then 300. If you can get finer than 300 use that as well. Helps if you use water with the 240 and 300.

We had our granite guy smooth the edges and I have them for serving platters. Refrigerate or freeze for cold items or warm in the oven for warm foods. They also work well for trivets. Our granite guy cuts them into stars or the shape of Texas. Keep in mind they're heavy.
