Okay guys, prepare to be bored. Just took an Epic trip through 7 states and boy did I burn up the digital SLR, to the tune of about 560 shots. You will not be required to suffer through that many. As I get a few photos up over the next several days, I'll try to post them and you can browse them or not.

First up: Yellowstone. Photos can't do it justice, it definitely lives up to the hype. A 'bucket list' place everyone should see at least once. A few of the highlights, and I hope I remembered the locations correctly.

Definitely one of the places I will be going when the girls get old enough to appreciate the trip. I've wanted to go up there since I can remember.

You really need about five trips to even touch the area. If you've never been, you should start now.

VanZandt is correct. We had two days, could have easily spent two weeks. We barely scratched the surface. And we were there the week before Memorial Day. It got more crowded each day, and the later in the day, the worse it got. I think if we had gone during the height of the summer season, I would have throttled somebody.

You need to be in decent shape, too. Lots of stuff was close to the roads, but you need to do lots of hiking and climbing to see it all.

Agree that there wasn't much snow for the 20th of May. The snowpack seemed pretty thin all over the parts of Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico that we traveled.

Oh I can tell you, the west its in a drought. I'd like to camp in the national forest this summer, but I want the kids to have a campfire, so we'll go somewhere I can make that happen.

Looks like fire season has begun. Pecos its on fire in New Mexico.

I spent a week there with the family in 2010 and have been dying to go back ever since. Probably will try and make it back there by 2015, even if I have to drag everyone else along. Or maybe I'll just go by myself.

My family doctor had never been to this area and wanted to go, but his wife wasn't interested. He just took off and went alone. He said he had to train himself to not stop and take pictures every 6 minutes or he would never get around the park.

Canyon, do you mind if I add a few pics from my time there last September?

As I said on the other thread, go ahead. The more pics and info the better.

Yellowstone in winter

I love those small deep holes that are turquoise or aqua. If I ran across one of those back when it was allowed, I would jump right in!
