We bought our 26kw generator on a deal a few months back and are getting a few quotes on the installation now. Our house natural gas line and breaker box/meter are all on the same side of where the pad for the generator is and roughly 24' away.

Have seen bids from $5800-7000 so far.

I've heard install is about the same cost as the generator.

The install price is driven by how far they have to run the gas and electrical. I think the electrical parts will be about the same from different installers. I would see who is charging the least per foot of gas/electrical run.

I had to run 75' of gas and 60' of electric. That was 2/3 of my total generator system cost.
