The panel only lights up when the charger is plugged into the panel and the run/stop switch is turned on. It acts normal until after the start button is depressed and normally when it would try to start, its like the panels "restarts". So maybe there is a short to the starter? Worth a shot

Try posting your issue on power equipment forum, in the generator section, they have some savvy guys over there.

Sorry it took so long to update this. So as mentioned, my generator is still under parts warranty. Cliff notes of story to get back to current info:
- before February freeze, went to go start generator to make sure in good shape, it tries to turn once then MIA
- try several batteries of various ages (current, new on shelf, brand new) and charging (with provided charger and with "bench" charger), and jump start, nothing. The only thing I found was when charger plugged into the panel, with battery attached and run/stop switch on, the battery light would turn on. Tested fuse for continuity
- the start button would light, and after pressing would flash, but when it went to start, the panel would "restart", all lights out and then come back on
- reach out to Westinghouse about the problem, they sent a new run/stop switch (130534), that was on backorder for just about two months. I have periodically checked and it has shown and still shows out of stock on their site as of this writing
- I install the switch installed, same symptoms
- contact Westinghouse; they say its time to take it to either an authorized Westinghouse repair shop or another small engine repair shop of my choosing, and the transport and labor are on me. Not wanting to load it and drive to Tomball, as parts may be covered there, I decide I do not like this option.

Now for the update:
- I contact Westinghouse again a few days later
- I explain to them, I would like to speak to someone on their technical staff, since they expect me to install parts as a warranty solution, I should have access to their technical staff for troubleshooting. I was told someone would reach out. I get an email saying to test my battery by going to an auto parts shop, despite me telling them I tried 3 batteries, charged different ways, voltage and load tested
- I am now irritated, so I call the Tomball Authorized shop (Houston Equipment Repair) and talk to Reed, he is very familiar with this and had 3 units in there for this problem. I talk him through everything I had done and tried, he states I have done everything he would and then recommended I reach out to Westinghouse and request a replacement unit, or the following three parts (fuse and fuse holder, remote controller box (6697) and wiring harness) and if they say to take it to him, he will request the same. He went on to say this is the fix for all of them. I email Westinghouse this.
- As Westinghouse is so slow, i order the remote box as its the only PN I could find on my own or with Westinghouse help and figure I could self fix the other two if not this part
- Get the part box in and get it installed, same day get a shipping notification that Westinghouse has sent one as a warranty part. This part still resulted in the same issue, so now its down to fuse I had tested or a wiring issue.
- I go buy a fuse to replace the current one despite having tested it good; that fixed it
- The Westinghouse part comes in, I return it in the place of the one I purchased

TLDR: it was the fuse (although it tested good on continuity); if you have the same problem, per authorized repair center, its either the fuse/fuse holder, remote controller box (6697) or wiring harness. I hope this may help someone on this thread if they have the same issue

Great in depth write up. Glad to hear it is fixed.

If you have a westinghouse 1200, their manual is wrong on oil filter. I've been running this down and I bought a Wix 57890 from ORiely.

Will replace it later today when I get mine running.

Well, my generator with all of 5hrs run time is now leaking gas from somewhere. Has to be after the fuel pump and before the carb as it won't turn over but it's leaking from somewhere.

I ran it dry after the break in period. I'm not sure what's gone wrong.

Maybe that the float got stuck after ran out of gas and is filling up the cylinders.

Possibly. Problem is I don't know how to tear into it to fix it. So I've got to find someone or bring it somewhere.

Given the time of year, all small engine shops are backed up for a month easy with lawn care engines.

Grab some wrenches and start taking stuff apart. 100% it's a float issue. If you want to bring it to Conroe I'll fix it for you but you can do it with a 10mm socket and flathead screw driver. Pull up YouTube and get to work.

I'm leaving town in the AM. But this is a project for next week.

I also need to build a housing for it so I can easily run it every few weeks. I have a utube video for the design and parts and the guy lives in Houston.

Anyone know where i can find a 50amp to 50amp cord for sale between Houston and CS? Lot of place will sell it to you to be shipped, but don't carry them in stock. Shipping is going to take several days but I'm trying to locate one today…

I bet a lot of Houston people like myself are kicking themselves for not biting the bullet and getting a standby generator…. I am one of them ! What a dummy, being lazy and not spending the money now has my house w out power going on day 2

We bought one two years ago after snowmaggdon, but haven't had to use it yet. Getting the electrical installation for lock0ut of the main feed wasn't cheap, nor was the generator, but we're very happy to have it nonetheless. Like any insurance, you don't appreciate it until you really need it. I would suggest you bite the bullet as soon as possible.

In the future you can get a cord that works for one end, cut the other one off and wire up a generic plug. I (well my electrician) did that for back feed cable.

I got a 30 amp cord and put a 50 amp plug for the generator backfeed.

Do they make mufflers or anything to knock down the noise level of a generator? Obviously I'd rather have the noise and have power compared to silence and now power. After almost 100 hours of hearing it this weekend, I got used to it, but if there is something I could bolt onto the exhaust that won't affect the flow, that would be great.

I'm pretty sure that if you browse through the first 10 pages or so, you'll find some solutions to the noise. One used a flexible hose connected to a muffler, but that looked pretty dangerous as far as having a large heat source exposed.

That's a 8 month wait time for ATF approval.

Anyone have experience with the Predator inverter generators from HarborFreight?

My Honda EG3500 has been great but I'd like something bigger, quieter, and burns less fuel. Thinking of getting two of these to daisy chain.

It's been a mixed bag from what I've read….some absolutely love them and say they're great for the price and others call them typical Harbor Freight junk..l have no experience personally but I do seem to see a lot of used ones at the store that have been returned and now have "refurbished" tags on them for deep discounts…

That's kinda what I was thinking. I do see lots of them in work applications like in work trucks and powering food trucks so they much be pretty dependable. The returns could be folks that used them for 2 days after storms but they are from HarborFreight...

Standard warranty for these generators from HF is only 90 days. If you go this way I would absolutely purchase the extended warranty from them. From my understanding, they basically will just give you a new gen at the store if you have a defect. They are also somewhat old school -- you have to have your original your receipt / paperwork...

Like I said I have no experience with them so they may be fine. I went with a Westinghouse WPro (8500 continuous 11500 surge) and have been well pleased…It won't give you the quietness you're looking for but it's reliable and I haven't noticed it being overly thirsty…

They pulled this on me recently trying to return a replacement wheelbarrow wheel. Finally after being enough of Karen they refunded me the $36.

Well here we go. Only took two years to be happy to have shelled out the cash for a generac. Tornado a mile away. It was running and all electronics were firing up as I exited the shelter. Significant damage around us and morning will tell more but I think we're okay. As expected, happened when my husband is on duty because that's when everything happens. Was very relieved to put sleeping baby boy back in his crib as if nothing had happened. Absolutely worth every penny.
