Postseason softball returns to Aggieland as A&M earns No. 16 overall seed

Bring the bubbles back to Davis Diamond.

For the 22nd consecutive year, Texas A&M softball earned an NCAA Tournament bid.

As hosting a regional was among the top of many players' goals, the Aggies’ 39-12 overall mark and 15-9 Southeastern Conference record proved to be enough to stay in College Station for the postseason.

Mission accomplished.

Following NCAA Sunday’s Selection Show, Texas A&M is the No. 16 overall national seed and will host UAlbany (33-12), Penn State (34-18) and Texas State (45-18) in the 2024 College Station Regional.

After a double bye in the SEC Tournament, the Maroon & White faced South Carolina in Friday afternoon’s quarterfinal and won on a walk-off double by Koko Wooley. Late in the day, the Ags fell to No. 2 seed Florida in the semifinals.

On Friday, Texas A&M will begin its postseason run vs. UAlbany at 5:30 on ESPN+. The College Station Regional is paired with the Austin Regional.

A year ago, A&M went 12-12 in conference play and finished with an overall record of 35-21 in Trisha Ford’s debut campaign. The Aggies’ postseason run ultimately ended in the Austin Regional.

However, repeating Ford’s sentiment from the start of the season: “The honeymoon is over.”

Now the work begins.

It will be the second regional hosted at Davis Diamond, dating back to 2018 as the first.

That 2018 club swept its way to the super regional round by defeating Praire View, McNeese State and Baylor before losing a rubber match to Florida in Gainesville.

In 2017, the Aggies took a trip to Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series, where they went 0-2.

In 2024, Ford added and developed some valuable pieces that have had a monumental impact this year.

Jazmine Hill had the breakout year she was hoping for, sitting at a .346 batting average with 46 hits and 38 RBIs entering the tournament.

Named to the All-SEC Second Team, Koko Wooley leads the team in batting average at .366, with her speed being a huge asset to the Maroon & White. She has notched 18 stolen bases, and she logged her first home run of the season in a run-rule walk-off victory against Auburn.

In the circle, Emiley Kennedy leads the way with a 21-10 record with a 1.68 ERA in 175 innings pitched.
