2026 Shreveport (LA) CE Byrd kicker Asher Murray commits to Texas A&M
Specialists are often unsung heroes on the football field, but they are undoubtedly vital to the success of any championship program.
On Monday, Mike Elko tapped into Louisiana for one of the nation’s top specialists as 2026 Shreveport (LA) CE Byrd kicker Asher Murray announced his commitment to the Aggies.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder has established himself among the nation’s elite kicking prospects. He received his Texas A&M offer in early June with special teams coordinator Patrick Dougherty leading the Aggies’ recruiting efforts.
Murray took his official visit the weekend of June 5, and he chose the Aggies over scholarships from Memphis and Maryland as well as interest from Georgia, Ole Miss, Auburn, Ohio State and several others.
As a junior at CE Byrd, he was 44 of 47 on PATs and 12 of 14 on field goals with a long of 56 on his way to Max Preps first-team junior All-America honors and first-team LSWA All-State honors. He also handled kickoff duties with 48 touchbacks on 57 kicks.
Asher is not the only kicker in the family. His older brothers Tyler (Temple and Oklahoma State) and Abram (Miami and Cal) both have a background as college kickers.
