Texas A&M southpaw Justin Lamkin named SEC Pitcher of the Week
On May 10, rain forced him off the Blue Bell Park mound.
Six days later, Justin Lamkin reigned in Athens.
The Texas A&M left-hander has been named the SEC's Pitcher of the Week following his complete game shutout of then-No. 10 Georgia on Friday evening.
In the second ballgame of the final regular season series of 2025, the Aggies desperately needed a win.
Lamkin took them the distance.
Needing 121 pitches, he spun nine scoreless innings while striking out a career-high 15 batters.
At the hitter-friendly Foley Field, the Bulldogs mustered just a trio of base-runners against Lamkin, all on base hits. Only one of them reached scoring position.
Impressively, Lamkin did not issue a walk. More impressively, he did not face a single three-ball count.
The southpaw's brilliance guided the Maroon & White to a 6-0 series-evening victory. However, the Aggies dropped Saturday's rubber match.
With the postseason beginning on Tuesday in the SEC Tournament and A&M's NCAA Tournament resume in major doubt, it is unknown if Lamkin will ever pitch again for the Aggies.
A junior, he is draft-eligible entering July’s selection process.
If Friday was indeed his swan song, what an incredible way to go out.
Additionally, his 15 punchouts vs. Georgia brought his career total to 255, which ranks 11th on A&M's all-time list, right behind John Doxakis (258) and just ahead of Clint Thomas (248).
On the season, Lamkin is 4-7 with a team-leading 3.52 ERA. He has struck out 93 batters in 79.1 innings.
This is the Calallen product's second career SEC Weekly honor, having been the league's co-Pitcher of the Week on March 25, 2024.
