Following a convincing win against FCS opponent McNeese State, the Aggies will head to "The Swamp" to face off against the Florida Gators. SEC Network's Peter Burns joins TexAgs LIVE on Tuesday to discuss Week 2 of SEC football and the impressive slate of upcoming games.

Key notes from Peter Burns interview

  • It was a good weekend. It was good to be back there. We did the Dixie Chicken, the Bottlecap Alley, Northgate the way it was supposed to be, and we saw the Conner Weigman that I thought we would see all season long.

  • I expected the Aggies to play better based on the level of competition. Now you have an unbelievably important game against who knows what in Florida with DJ Lagway. You took advantage of a bad team, and you injected a little bit of flavor and juice into your program.

  • I think that's one of the things we talked about. When you lose your starting center a couple of plays into the season, everything changes. That was just a horrible matchup in Week 1, and Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame were going to take advantage of that. You need to win a damn game. I’m on the golf course with my dad right now, and what I say is just get a birdie. I don't care if it's an easy par five or an easy par three. Just get something to where you're like, “Alright, I have something positive to work on.”

  • On a scale of 1-10, probably, the ceiling for Graham Mertz is probably an eight, but the floor is probably like a six. Lagway can be a 10. We saw those plays. That's why I’m looking forward to seeing the matchup with A&M’s secondary. We don't know what the floor is. He's a freshman playing at home with the weight of the program on his shoulders. I don't think he will start. As long as Mertz clears that concussion protocol, I think we’ll see him start.

  • No, I haven't changed the way I see LSU. I don't know what to make of USC. This is where the offensive line plays a monster role for LSU. South Carolina’s Dylan Stewart has been nothing but fantastic, and I’m still shocked. Did you hear what Shane Beamer said? He had no idea they were having College GameDay until his wife told him as they were landing the plane.

  • I think some people say that it was a little off the top and a little cheesy when Beamer got there. What they did against Kentucky is I think they just took it to them. I have never seen a Kentucky team give up like that.

  • It's both. Texas is legit. I did their spring game this year. I think Michigan is probably best case scenario 9-3. I still think it's an 8-4 squad. When you lose thirteen players to the NFL and you lose your head coach, you're going to have a huge fallback. I look at this and say, “It's a good win, but it doesn't matter until we see Texas vs. Georgia later in the season.” I want this game in Kyle Field to matter for everybody and for it to be a CFP implication game. God, I can't even imagine how expensive the tickets would be.

  • That’s brutal for Kentucky. By the way, they get Ohio next week after they get beat down by Georgia, and then they have to go to Oxford to face off against Ole Miss. You need to get over this hump. This was the game that South Carolina needed. You got demoralized at home in front of your fans, and now you have to face Georgia and then Ole Miss.
