Texas A&M men's basketball appears to be back on track after a 72-54 win over Oregon State. Following the win, Buzz Williams joined TexAgs Radio to break down the Aggie's successes over the Beavers and how they can continue this momentum heading into Memphis.

Key notes from Buzz Williams interview

  • I think it was a positive step. It is when you get to play one game a week. The staff did a good job of diagnosing what we did differently in the five wins and three losses. In the first half, we played at too high of a turnover rate. The guys saw the adjustments come to life yesterday.

  • We need our defense to help fuel our offense. Yesterday was the best we had rebounded the ball. Some of the adjustments we made helped, but we still have a long way to go.

  • Monday afternoon, we showed our guys what we had learned in eight games. The good and the bad. As a teacher, if they can understand the why, it helps. One of those things was fouling. The other problems we were having were the opponent's 3-pointers and free throws. Our rotation coverage on the weak side was okay, but not great. I think we do a good job of putting pressure on the rim. We were one of the best at getting fouled, but one of the worst at fouling. We made 19 free throws, they made seven.

  • Memphis will be the best team we play, statistically speaking. It will be the best environment and the best talent we have played. We need to continue to progress this week before we play again. Today and tomorrow are busy for our guys academically. We are trying to figure out how to best manage that relative to practice, film and skill work. Memphis beat Auburn, then they are at Alabama. Our guys have done a great job of receiving the truth and executing what we are trying to do. We still have a long way to go.

  • I think last night was the best Manny Obaseki has been all year. Up until last night, I don't think he has been near what he was as a freshman. He is good at going downhill. We need him to help us on the glass. Manny, Wade Taylor and Henry Coleman had vital roles in the last 15 games last year. Manny has been subpar compared to last year. If you look at those three losses, we need those returners to be good players. We need our best-returning players to be their best.
