TexAgs Recruiting analysts Jason Howell and Ryan Brauninger joined this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M as camp season is officially here.

Key notes from Jason Howell

  • June should be pretty fun, and the calendar is packed with camps and state 7on7 coming up. It should be fun. There are a lot of guys taking visits, and they’ll trim lists down. Guys are getting close, and there will be a lot of summertime commitments. Texas A&M has put itself in a great position for several out-of-state names.

  • One name to watch is Harris Sewell‍. He took a visit to Clemson recently, but A&M has been high on that list. I could see it being decision time for him pretty soon.

  • You never know what could go down at this time of year. With the camp season, you never know who could get an offer and shut it down right there.

  • Jaden Rashada‍ is coming off his visit, and I heard things went well. He went right into Florida and LSU, so he has been on the road. Darrell Dickey and the staff are right there in the mix. I think he has a June 18 commitment date, and I expect A&M to be right there. Florida has been a school to watch, and his brother is committed to Ole Miss.

  • Notre Dame just pulled out of the Dante Moore‍ race, but A&M is still looking at him. I know A&M is still looking at Austin Novosad‍. It would be hard to pick one of those three right now.

  • Anthony Hill‍ and Derion Gullette‍ are two in-state names that have been priorities. Hill has been a key target since his freshman year. A&M is well-positioned with those two guys, and those are A&M’s top two targets. You also have Justin Jefferson‍ out of JUCO, who is coming in. You also have Grayson Howard‍. I see A&M taking three or four linebackers depending on what’s out there, and I like the mix that they’re in on.

  • You’ve seen what Georgia and Alabama have done at linebacker, and that’s where A&M is trying to get to. With the defensive line, it makes linebackers and DBs better.

  • Sydir Mitchell Jr.‍ is coming off a visit, and he still has visits to Texas, Miami and Auburn. It’s looking like Georgia and A&M have taken a little bit of a lead. When he came in the spring, he had questions about the DL class from last year. He sat down with Elijah Robinson and had all his questions answered. They told Mitchell that he’s their guy. He’s a true nose but is athletic enough to play a three-technique. He is looking to make a decision probably this summer at some point. After he wraps up these visits, you might see something happen pretty quickly.

  • Steve Addazio talked to Chase Bisontis‍ a lot about playing guard. He might be best at guard, but he can be a high-level tackle. He has a few visits, including Rutgers and Michigan State. Bisontis is looking to make a decision in July, it looks like. A&M was his first visit, and the Aggies blew it out of the park.

  • Everybody on A&M’s staff does a great job communicating their plans for each of these prospects.

Key notes from Ryan Brauninger

  • Jason has been knocking it out of the park with these interviews. With baseball, it has been harder for me to get into the flow of the recruiting calendar, but with OVs and camps, it’s a signal that our jobs are about to pick up.

  • It’s June 8 right now, but on August 8, we’ll know more about A&M’s recruiting class and where it will go.

  • Jaden Rashada‍ will likely be done by this summer. Dante Moore‍ from Detroit is another quarterback that should be done by the summer.

  • A&M will add to their class in the next month, but I don’t know if we’ll see a big tidal wave of commitments. However, that is still a possibility.

  • Camps start today at 3 p.m. They’ll have a morning and afternoon session on Thursday and Friday. It’ll be this week and next week. It is a huge eval point for the A&M coaching staff, and they put a huge emphasis on these weeks. These are two important weeks for this staff.

  • If Austin Novosad‍ came back to campus, that would be a big indication that he would get an offer.

  • There is a lot out there with Rashada, and it’s hard to separate. There is a lot of Florida momentum.

  • The A&M situation is being used against them because they have three talented dudes already, so when are you going to get your snaps? That has been the pitch used against A&M, and the appeal of early playing time might be giving these guys visions of sunnier pastures.

  • A&M has to get the quarterback that fits with what’s going on, and they have to understand it’s going to be a battle to play quarterback here. With Rashada, there are going to be talented players wherever he goes. It’s not just quarterback where A&M can be picky. They can be picky on the offensive line. We saw that at defensive back and knew that Jayvon Thomas‍ was an elite target of theirs, and they took him early. That should be an indication that they value him really highly.

  • A&M offered Daymion Sanford‍ out of Katy Paetow. They were out there to watch David Hicks‍, but Sanford impressed. He was here for a private workout, so A&M got all his measurables. He ran a 4.6 40 on a laser. He has eye-catching numbers. If he does that at all of these camps, he will blow up. He is supposed to be back here today for camp and an unofficial visit.

  • Anthony Hill‍ remains the No. 1 priority target for me in this class because it’s a position of need, and he’s phenomenal. He is a walk-in, play-a-ton-as-a-freshman type of player.

  • Sydir Mitchell Jr.‍ is a different body style than even Walter Nolen. Walter is a big dude, but Mitchell is even bigger.

  • A&M will have ins with a lot of these top-tier players from the northeast, and another one of those is Chase Bisontis‍.

  • We knew a little bit about D.J. Durkin down the stretch last year. He’s really just a genuine guy. He’s not soft-spoken, but he’s not a yeller. Everything we’ve heard about Addazio is that he brings a ton of energy.
