Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White

TexAgs Recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail ahead of the Maroon & White Game at Kyle Field.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • David Hicks‍ will be at Katy Paetow next year. His dad is a coach and was initially hired and moved to Allen to work for Chad Morris at Allen. I think they wanted to get back to the Houston area. The stars aligned with the coaching movement and now he's back. He's a Houston kid born and raised. A lot of their family connections are there, and they are pumped to be back. It just makes it easier for him to get to Texas A&M.

  • It's a great time to be a TexAgs subscriber. We just dropped our Spring Game visitor list and it is LOADED. Never a bad time to be on premium, but now is a great time. I think things are starting to get rolling in the class of 2023.

  • 2023 will be a much smaller class based on what we're hearing. They brought in a big class last year, and I think you will see them want to leave some spots open for the transfer portal. I think you see the number closer to 20 this year than 30 like last year.

  • The Aggies offered Bravion Rogers‍ from La Grange. I love the offer. He has some great tape. He came in person and got the offer which I think is huge. Better late than never. I still don't see kids close to making a decision. Nothing is imminent.

  • Jayvon Thomas‍ from South Oak Cliff was here in the studio last weekend. He will be at LSU this weekend. Another guy who could be getting close, but not there yet in terms of decisions.

  • Having guys like Johnny Manziel, Von Miller, or Myles Garrett can never hurt your recruiting efforts. But I don't think those interactions are nearly as important as those with the current players who can portray what life is like at Texas A&M right now, and with this coaching staff. Don't get me wrong, though; Johnny Manziel is still box office.

  • Rueben Owens‍ will be here this weekend. I don't think it was a narrative that Texas A&M was falling behind; I think it was kind of happening. Getting him back on campus is huge to getting back in the fold in his recruitment. His relationship with Jimbo Fisher is huge. A&M has been in on other running backs because they felt like they were behind in this recruitment. Who knows what changes when he's on campus this weekend with a lot of other top talents from around the state and country.
