Key notes from Jimbo Fisher interview

  • It's about halfway through with today. We still got a lot of calls that will be made later in the day. We are very excited about the guys we have in, which is the basis of a tremendous class. Hopefully, we can finish and close.

  • You always hear that here’s always something on Signing Day. Always extra good things on signing days, and always disappointing things most of the time. Hopefully, we don’t get any disappointing things.

  • Very excited about the guys. I think we're putting together a great class. Our staff, our recruiting staff, everybody’s done a great job putting it all together across the board. All positions, the things we're doing are putting together a complete deal to be able to go and compete in this league.

  • Relationships. That’s the secret and the key to success in the recruiting world because you have to have enough people to constantly send messages, give the attention and build the relationships. Those guys are just as big of a part in it, and that’s the way things have to go. Our recruiting staff and our full-time folks have been outstanding, but our off-the-field people have been amazing. It really is. The work, the dedication, the relentless workers they are and sending the message that they believe in what we do.

  • No offense to anyone else, but Conner Weigman‍ was my choice to get. I love him. I think he’s the most complete player in the county. I think his demeanor, his competitiveness, his ability to raise the level his teammates play and the things he’s done are outstanding. He’s an unbelievable baseball player, but he and I see things very similarly. That guy always has a chip on his shoulder. He always competes and plays and doesn’t shy away from competition and loves to step up. This guy here, he’s good at camp, but when the game comes, he’s even better. He has a toughness to him. He has the athleticism to beat you with his head. More importantly, he’s a competitor. His toughness, his ability to raise the level of his teammates. Then he can beat you with his arm and feet. He has all those intangibles, plus the great gifts physically, and I see him with a tremendous future. I love everything about him.

  • Our tight ends, again I said Donovan Green‍ is as complete of a guy there is in this country. This guy is physical. His ability to run, catch, get out of the break, size, competitiveness, natural ball skills, natural body movements. You watch him in film, he’ll put his hat right in the middle of your nose, and I mean bloody it out. He can do everything. He can beat you vertically. I love everything about him. He’s a tremendous basketball player, a tremendous competitor, an intelligent young man. Unbelievable. I can’t say enough about him.

  • Everything Theodor Melin Öhrström‍ does is so natural. It really is. He can run, run. Runs like a wideout. He’s a 4.5 guy. He can catch it, get vertical and make the play out of there, and I think that’s the thing the way I use this guy. It’s real easy. You can punch him in there and force people to play you at safety, and all of a sudden, you can put him out there at wideout and run routes. These guys all have verticality, ball skills and all that.

  • Then you add in Jake Johnson‍ today. He’s a really good addition for us and what we're doing here. He’s a tremendous athlete. I've known him since he was in the eighth grade. Great ball skills, great route running, unbelievable understanding of football. When you get two or three of those guys, and I used to do it a lot, a lot of two or three tight end sets, and it can really cause some problems. These guys are all really athletic. Jake can get vertical. He has unbelievable ball skills and knowledge. It's amazing to have three guys of that class and you can play them and make them very professional.
