Notes from Von Miller interview

* Opened with, "Howdy!"

* Says that saying "Howdy" isn’t a chore to do, it just happens. Being out there in Aggieland all those years, it just kind of grew on him and it’s a part of him now.

* Had great teammates this year in Denver. The resiliency of the team and the character of the locker room is what will be remembered most from this past season. It was really similar to the team back at A&M.

* Says this is the National Football League, and it’s hard to find a team in the league like the one in Denver.

* As a team, the Broncos tried to be resilient. Starting the season off 1-4, everybody wrote them off, and then had the winning streak midseason, and then lost a couple of games at the end. Happened to make it to the playoffs and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers who went to the Super Bowl last year. It’s just been a resilient year and says he is excited to work out this offseason and get back to work.

* Says it was humbling to see the "58" jerseys in the stadium alongside the 24s (Champ Bailey), 15s (Tim Tebow), and 92s (Elvis Dumervil). For someone to go out and purchase a 58 jersey, and wear it game in and game out, has been incredible. We have great fans here in Bronco Nation.

* The glasses caught on a little bit, especially as they started having some success as a football team and as a defense. The biggest thing about the glasses is that people don’t realize that the glasses are being put to use and it’s not just a fashion statement.

* From a team standpoint, most proud of the way the guys on the team didn’t quit after most people wrote the Broncos off. They were one and four and no one thought they would be able to do anything this year, but they were able to fight those guys back and win games.

* From an individual standpoint, proud that he was able to come in and play linebacker. The only thing on his individual goal sheet was to be able to come in and play linebacker for this organization and he feels he was able to do that.

* Gives a lot of credit to Coach Sherman. He made him the type of player and the type of person he is on and off the field. He instilled accountability, integrity, honor, trusting the people around you and being consistent day in and day out, not only on the field but off the field as well, into him. The foundation he set while at Texas A&M was what really helped him going into his senior year. There was a lot of uncertainty going on after his senior year with the lockout and he didn’t know if football was going to be played and the tools that Coach Sherman gave him really helped me out.

* Took a step backward some days, but always tried to make forward progress in what he was doing with the Denver Broncos.

* A lasting memory taken from the time at A&M was the Oklahoma and Nebraska games at the end of the 2010 season. They had beat Oklahoma and everybody thought it was a fluke victory but the team was able to come back and beat Nebraska without scoring a touchdown in a true defensive battle.

* Remembers all the guys on the sidelines and never saw doubt in any of their eyes during that stretch.

* Thinks Coach Sumlin has A&M going in the right direction and has really been able to open up recruiting throughout the state of Texas.

* Feels like Coach Sumlin will be able to go get guys that we couldn’t get before and will take A&M to the level it needs to be heading into the SEC.

* Coach Sherman was able to get great guys here, but Coach Sumlin will be able to take that a step further.

* Everybody has comments and remarks about the move to the SEC, especially Tim Tebow. Says he gives a lot of grief about A&M going to the SEC and him winning national championships.

* Believes the Ags have got a true team that will fight until the end and if things don’t start out well in the SEC, it will be alright.

* The move to the SEC will give all of our athletic teams a chance to play against the top talent in the nation and show how great they are against the best. It will give them a chance to further their career past collegiate sports and get to the next level.

* Believes next year can be even better, unfortunately got injured this year and had some rookie mistakes that held him back.

* Believes there was no way to truly prepare himself for the NFL besides playing in the NFL.

* Having a year under the belt, now knowing the grind it takes to play in the NFL will be the biggest learning tool anyone could have.

* In college, there are about five weeks of training camp with thirteen or fourteen games while in the pros you have six weeks of training camp, then four preseason games, and then the sixteen regular season games. It really takes a toll mentally and physically.

* Says he will be a totally different player next year after having the experience of a full NFL season.

* Says there were a couple positive things about the lockout, one being seeing the Dallas Mavericks win the NBA title. Another being able to connect with all of the other rookies. Being able to connect off the field, you get the chance to be friends instead of enemies for once.

* Super exciting to be a Pro Bowl selection. Says it’s a high honor to be selected and attributes it to his defense in Denver. If good defense isn’t being played, it’s hard to get people to the pro-bowl.

* Says he owes a lot to his position coach, Richard Smith, who was the defensive coordinator with Coach Sherman in Houston. Says Coach Smith stayed on him every day and grinded him harder than ever before.
