Key notes from Kendall Rogers interview

  • It's the final weekend before conference tournament play, and teams around the country are jockeying for position and trying to get into NCAA Regionals.

  • When you look across college baseball, the NCAA looked at the capacity thing and saw that MLB is increasing attendance. The NCAA decided they can make fans happy and make more revenue for themselves and these schools. There are few things better than postseason college baseball and full ballparks. The NCAA knocked this out of the park.

  • I hope all of the regionals go with full capacity. I'd be surprised if Santa Clara does it. Even in Austin, their mayor has been strict about capacity. There will be a lot of pressure in Austin for them to have full capacity for this, however. I would expect most of the regionals will be at full capacity.

  • Thinking back to the Globe Life tournament at the beginning of the year, they had like 20,000 fans on Saturday. The lower level was packed. You felt then that it was weird, but it's also cool to go to a game with a ton of people. I have not been to a game with 100 percent capacity. I'm excited to get to Hoover and a full house. I'm also excited for the city of Omaha. They're getting the whole of the economic impact. Kyle Peterson has said that people around there are pumped. Normalcy in the state of Nebraska is coming back, and normalcy is coming back for most of the country.

  • It has been a weird year for Texas A&M. Rob Childress touched on everything that has gone wrong during this week's press conference. Coming into the year with the pitching, there were some pieces that needed to take steps forward, like Dustin Saenz, Bryce Miller, Mason Ornelas and Nathan Dettmer. All of the guys they thought were going to be dudes haven't been good consistently. Those issues get magnified when your offense isn't productive. Will Frizzell deserves so much credit for being a beast without much help.

  • The biggest question is whether or not A&M will make a coaching change, and all signs point to yes. When your contract hasn't been renewed that this point, the writing is on the wall. If this team had Asa Lacy and Christian Roa, they're probably a Super Regional team, and we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

  • If A&M is going to make a move, they have to make a move next week. It's a bittersweet deal. This happens all the time. Texas went a decade with Mack Brown as their football coach, but at some point, both sides get stale. Rob's tenure should be celebrated. There are a lot of coaches at big-time programs who would take making the NCAA tournament in 13 years. He has had a great career, but I get it: He hasn't won a national championship or gone to Omaha as much as he would've liked. If this is Childress' last weekend, I hope he goes out a winner.

  • Pittsburgh might not host a regional. They got swept at home by NC State. If the NCAA thought they were going to go to 100 percent capacity, why wouldn't you wait to announce the hosts at a later time? Why make it a week early? Pitt is probably out of a hosting spot unless they go on a big run and win the ACC tournament.

  • The team I have my eye on is South Carolina. They swept Kentucky, and now they have 15 SEC wins. They're a series win over Tennessee this weekend away from being in the top 16. They're starting to play really well.

  • LA Tech needs to win this series against Old Dominion to keep their spot atop Conference USA. Florida-Arkansas is an interesting series, and Florida has quietly won five-straight series. If the Gators win, they could go into Hoover with a serious shot to get into the top eight. Texas Tech is another team that could get into the top eight. I'd keep an eye on Florida and Texas Tech this weekend. Florida was a team that wasn't even in the conversation to host a couple of weeks ago.
