During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the pitch, the links, the diamonds and beyond following a busy weekend for the Maroon & White.


Soccer (11-3, 7-1 in SEC play)
No. 8 Texas A&M defeated No. 3 TCU, 1-0, on Saturday night at Ellis Field in Bryan-College Station, handing the Horned Frogs their first loss of the 2020-21 season.

  • Lauren Geczik scored the match’s only goal in the 57th minute with an assist from Macie Kolb.
  • Kenna Caldwell made three saves to record the clean sheet.

With the win, the Aggies should have secured their spot in the NCAA Tournament.

  • In 2021, the field includes just 48 teams and a limited number of at-large bids.
  • The NCAA Tournament begins April 27 and will be played entirely in North Carolina.
  • The NCAA Selection Show will be held on April 19.

Men’s Golf
At their home course this weekend, the tenth-ranked Aggies swept the 2021 Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club, winning both the team championship and boasting the individual champion.

  • Texas A&M entered Sunday seven shots behind leader No. 2 Oklahoma. The Aggies shot a 4-under 284 to force a playoff, and the Maroon & White came out on top.
  • Sam Bennett won the individual crown, finishing 6-under for the weekend. The win is Bennett’s third in four events.
  • Also finishing in the top-ten was Dan Erickson, who posted a final-round score of 68 to come in tied for sixth at 1-over.

Texas A&M will head east to play in the SEC Championships at Sea Island Golf Course in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

  • First round: Wednesday, April 21
  • Second round: Thursday, April 22
  • Third round: Friday, April 23
  • Match play: Saturday, April 24 - Sunday, April 25

Track & Field
Texas A&M hosted the Texas A&M Invitational this weekend at E.B. Cushing Stadium in Bryan-College Station, and the Aggies put on a show.

  • Tyra Gittens set a school record in the heptathlon with 6,274 points to win the event. She best her own school record by 200 points and currently leads the NCAA. The performance was the seventh-high collegiate score in history.
    • The only event Gittens didn’t win was the 800m, and she finished second.
  • Syaira Richardson won the women’s 400m with a time of 52.42, her best time of the season.
  • The women’s 4x400m relay team won the event with a time of 3:26.73, an E.B. Cushing Stadium facility record.
  • Lamara Distin won the women’s high jump with a jump of 1.83m/6-0, another facility record.
  • Zhane Smith won the women’s long jump with a jump of 6.45m/21-2.
  • Brandon Miller won the men’s 800m with a time of 1:48.25, a facility record.
  • Connor Schulman won the mens’ 110m hurdles with a time of 14.00 to set a facility record.
  • The men’s 4x100m relay team won the event with a time of 39.91.
  • Carter Bajoit won the men’s high jump with a jump of 2.15m/7-½.

The Aggies will run in the Michael Johnson Classic this weekend in Waco.

  • The event is being held by Baylor University and will begin on Friday, April 16, and conclude on Saturday, April 17.

Men’s Tennis (14-7, 6-5 in SEC play)
The Aggies dropped a pair of road matches this weekend.

A&M is back in action on Saturday, April 17, as they host Alabama at the Mitchell Tennis Center in Bryan-College Station.

  • The match is a rescheduling of a March 28 postponement as the Crimson Tide had COVID-19 issues.

Women’s Tennis (15-5, 7-3 in SEC play)
No. 20 Texas A&M defeated No. 28 Arkansas, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center in Bryan-College Station.

  • A&M won the doubles point, 2-1.
  • Dorthea Faa-Hviding won her match in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-1)
  • Renee McBryde won her match in three sets (6-7, 6-0, 6-0)
  • Riley McQuaid won her match in straight sets (7-5, 6-4)

Next on the schedule is the SEC Tournament, which begins Tuesday, April 20, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Softball (26-11, 5-7 in SEC play)
Texas A&M dropped a home series to Auburn over the weekend at Davis Diamond in Bryan-College Station.

The Aggies are back in action on Wednesday night as they host Sam Houston State.

  • First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed on SEC Network+

Baseball (19-15, 3-9 in SEC play)
Texas A&M’s losing streak has reached six games as the Aggies were swept at home by Alabama this weekend in Bryan-College Station.

The Aggies are back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to San Marcos to face Texas State.

  • First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+
