Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • This would usually be a busy day of the year for me and Jason with the Spring Game coming up. We would be on the road for spring tours, and kids would be visiting for practices and stuff. It has been weird. Every industry is very weird.

  • This thing is affecting timelines and all of that. That's something I'm going to talk to Bryce Foster‍ about pretty soon. There are a lot of people out there making predictions about him, but he has always said that he's going to wait to decide on the early signing day. I want to ask Bryce if it's funny to him to see all of these people - and sometimes it's national reporters doing it - say that he's made a decision.

  • If you're a recruiting reporter, you should not be going out and boasting about your prediction. That's taking the moment away from the kid. I'm very passionate about that. I've done this for so long, and I've never understood the need to have a 'crystal ball.' In the end, it's about letting the kid have their moment and their day.

  • When you build relationships with the kids and their families, I don't care if they come to A&M. It would be coo, sure, but it's about seeing what's best for them. I'll never tell them what's best for them. This business is about building relationships and reporting on what the kids are doing, not telling them what to do.

  • I think A&M is going to be around for a long time with Terrence Lewis‍. He is super tight with Donell Harris. With James Coley coming in, that's going to help so much in Miami. If you look up in December and February and there are multiple Miami kids there, you can thank Terry Price and Ish and Coley. Multiple sources have told me it would be no surprise to see A&M get two or three kids out of Miami in this cycle.

  • Until I get out there and see Amari Daniels‍, it'll be hard to know how undervalued he is. But his tape is impressive.

  • Deuce Harmon‍ is continuing to grow his relationship with TJ Rushing. With Mike Elko continuing to recruit him and Eli Stowers‍ there at Guyer with him, it's going to continue to get better. He is built in that old Wrecking Crew-style corner build. When you're around him and listen to other recruiting analysts talk about who he is as a player, his stock is going to continue to shoot up. A&M is going to be right there. With COVID-19 and all the cancelations, this is a kid A&M feels like they could've locked down.

  • Taleeq Robbins‍ was in the Madden Tournament. Marcus Bradley‍ kind of surprised a lot of people with having A&M in his top six.

  • Victory Vaka‍ is a kid who has scheduled a late-season visit to A&M when they play Ole Miss. He's really fun to talk to.

  • Defensive tackle, much like safety, is pretty much going to be out-of-state.

  • It's more important to have that summer camp this year than any under Jimbo Fisher. Showing kids that if they come to camp and perform well, they'll get that A&M offer. It's becoming more important to come camp at A&M.
