Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • Coming out of the dead period, they've already had a visitor come in: a defensive end out of New Orleans, Byron Turner‍.

  • We still don't know if they're going to have another junior day, but the visits will start to trickle in. That'll happen more as spring ball begins so the kids can see them in action. It gives them a preview of what a real-life, tough workout in college looks like.

  • I don't know if there is any breaking news, but A&M is still holding firm and in some battles. I'm not sure that they're going to add to the class until spring ball starts.

  • Byron Turner is like a lot of Louisiana defensive lineman. He's raw, but his frame is what's getting him these offers. The way he projects, there is a lot of versatility there. I don't know if he's as good as some other out of state prospects, but he's a guy that Terry Price and Mike Elko are keeping warm.

  • Jordon Thomas‍ isn't going to make a decision until he takes a couple of more visits. It seems like it's A&M or Texas with LSU on the outside looking in. He's got a couple of visits to A&M scheduled, with an official visit looking like it will come during the spring game weekend. He won't make a decision until he comes to College Station a couple of more times.

  • Tunmise Adeleye‍ (pictured above) looks like he lost a ton of weight, but he's filling out more on the edge. A&M will be in that recruitment, but Florida has done a good job recruiting him. If a kid who grew up in Houston but spent his last year at IMG, it wouldn't be surprising if Florida landed him.

  • Kaine Williams‍ is not in a hurry. It's highly likely that A&M's safety class will come from out of the state. There isn't a lot of safety prospects in state this year.

  • When you add this one-time transfer rule, they need to look at the 25 newcomer cap. You can't have it both ways. The biggest fans are the non-power-five programs. Houston should feast in this new system. Those types of schools are recruiting better than they ever had. SMU and Houston should take advantage.

  • Devon Achane will run track. He'll run in the 200m and then in the sprints.

  • I know A&M has a pretty good chance with Connor Tollison‍, and they've been recruiting him pretty hard. Alabama just jumped in. I remember watching his tape and thinking he's good.

  • Jordan Crook‍ is part of that 2022 linebacker class that is going to be the rebirth of linebacker. A&M has been looking at him. He was here for the Super Bowl party. There is a deep - and getting deeper - linebacker class in 2022.
