Tommie Robinson gives Texas A&M another proven coach, recruiter

Long-time collegiate and NFL coach Tommie Robinson has been hired as Texas A&M running backs coach, Billy Liucci reported according to his sources on Monday evening.

Robinson, 56, replaces Jay Graham who left A&M in January to join the coaching staff at Tennessee.

Robinson has served as LSU’s assistant head coach, running backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the last three seasons. As running backs coach at LSU, he produced three consecutive 1,000-yard rushers, including Derrius Guice (1,251 yards in 2017), Nick Brossette (1,039 yards in 2018) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (1,414 yards in 2019).

Robinson has coached at the high school, collegiate and professional levels during his career, which began in 1986 at Woodham High School in Pensacola, Fla.

He served as running backs coach at Utah State in 1992-93 and as wide receivers coach at TCU from 1994-97 before joining the Dallas Cowboys staff in 1998. He coached receivers and special teams for the Cowboys until moving to Georgia Tech to coach receivers and tight ends from 2002-2005.

Robinson oversaw running backs at Memphis in 2006 and at the University of Miami from 2007-09. He then returned to the NFL to coach running backs for the Arizona Cardinals from 2010-12.

In 2013 he returned to college football to coach running backs at USC. He followed that with two seasons as running backs coach at Texas before returning to USC as running backs coach and running game coordinator in 2016.

In 2017 he was named the Pac-12 Recruiter of the Year by 247sports.

Originally from Phenix City, Alabama, Robinson played strong safety at Troy State from 1982-86.

He and his wife, Lartonyar, have three children.
