Rob Childress, select A&M players preview Friday night matchup with Rice

Texas A&M baseball's fall camp is in full swing. Ahead of their Friday night scrimmage with the Rice Owls, coach Rob Childress, Bryce Blaum and Chris Weber met with the media to provide a fall ball update.

Key notes from Rob Childress interview on TexAgs Radio

  • We're looking forward to playing Rice on Friday. It should be a great crowd, we'll have baseball weather and the opportunity to have fun this weekend.

  • It's great that the NCAA now allows us to play in the fall. I wasn't willing to give up one or two of our 56 spring games but now that we get two fall games, it's a great opportunity to give new guys a feel for game-day. About halfway through the fall, we're still and work in progress but the experience of playing in front of fans will be good for the team.

  • It's refreshing to have the new additions of Chad Caillet and Cliff Pennington. Both have so much knowledge and a passion for the game. Caillet wants to play fast and be aggressive offensively. We're trying to implement that reckless freedom on the bases.

  • We have a good mix of veterans and new talent. Logan Sartori has been good for us, Rody Barker transferred from New Mexico Junior College, Trevor Werner has been explosive off the mound, Ray Alejo is bringing in speed, and Logan Britt out of Dallas has been a big presence in center field.

  • Christian Roa has been off to a great start and we have Chris Weber and Bryce Miller returning. We hope to play 14 innings tomorrow. Jonathan Childress is ahead of schedule in returning from Tommy John surgery. We have a lot of experience out of the bullpen and I always say you can never have too much pitching.

  • We're looking to get rid of anxiety and have the full game-day experience this Friday. We're excited to have the fans and play under the lights tomorrow.

I may be the only person more excited for this than football this weekend! Thanks for the coverage.

What r u excited about. RC has a 14 year resume that include no wins in Omaha & he lucked out our AD left or he would have been fired. He dies less with more than any current coach at Texas A&M and the resume proves it. It's no different than Sumlin or BK - until we get a new head coach, nothing with change which brings us terrible in game "feel" coaching instead of statistical analysis, no local Texas hitting products ( just juco to plug the holes short term) & no identity as a team. Sad really
