Key notes from Rob Childress interview

  • We are playing four games in five days for the next three weeks. Being on the road tonight certainly makes this a compressed week. We just need to get into a routine, and we should be ready to go.

  • I’m looking forward to the challenges that await us on the road. Nine of our next ten games are on the road. We are going to have to have some other guys step up on the mound.

  • Chandler Jozwiak will be starting for us tonight. We need him to open the game for us and get us off to a good start. We will likely have another four or five guys pitch as well to ensure he remains fresh for the weekend.

  • I thought we showed a lot of toughness in the series against Auburn this past weekend. We didn’t play our best baseball, but we found a way to win a series against a very good Auburn team. Friday, we had an amazing performance. Everything that could go our way did. We strung some hits together and made them matter against one of the best pitchers in the SEC.

  • In our game on Sunday, Christian Roa got us off to a great start. Then we were able to string together four hits in a row, which ended up being the difference in that ball game.

  • Mikey Hoehner is a special young man. We are lucky to have him in our program. He came up big for us this past weekend. He is a great player and an even better teammate.

  • We are going to continue to take it slow with Roa. We can’t afford any setbacks with him. If he feels good moving into this week, we will continue to do what we have been doing with him for the past few games. We just want to protect him.

  • I believe the keys to the series against South Carolina this weekend is that we have to be the aggressor. We have to play with a chip on our shoulder. They aren’t an incredible offensive team from a statistical standpoint, but they can hit with power. We must make them earn everything they get. If they do hit home runs, they need to be solos.
