Key notes from Rob Childress interview

  • I’m glad to be back home this weekend. We aren’t going to play in a more hostile environment than the two places we played in this past weekend.

  • We were able to get out to a lead against Texas. Thankfully we were able to build on that lead late in the game and hold off Texas’s comeback attempt.

  • Mikey Hoehner and Bryce Blaum are the heartbeat of our team. They both play with a chip on their shoulder and their heart on their sleeve. I am thankful that we haven’t lost those guys for an extended period of time this season. We are fortunate to have those guys on our roster.

  • We want Asa Lacy to get back to pitching from the windup. He has had some struggles from a command standpoint. He understands that he has a limited number of pitches when he’s on the mound, and I think that motivates him to be effective with the pitches he has.

  • Ty Coleman struggled this past week. He’s been dealing with some nagging injuries like most guys do during this part of the season. He’s a really tough player.

  • We are hosting Texas State tonight and Auburn this weekend. Auburn presents a tough challenge for us and I think it will end up being a really good matchup. It’s going to be a busy weekend in Aggieland with it being parent weekend, and we are looking forward to it.

  • Chris Weber has really pitched well in recent games. I don’t think he could have been better in the multiple tough situations we asked him to get us out of last week. We are also hoping to get Christian Roa back soon.

  • Tonight’s game against Texas State is the most important one of the year because it’s the next one. They have a group of very good hitters in their lineup. Dustin Saenz will be starting for us tonight. I want to see us continue to play well, however, we need to do a better job from a defensive standpoint. We were exceptional defensively to begin the season, but we have gotten careless at times recently.
