Texas A&M’s scheduled basketball game with Boston College for today has been canceled due to BC’s transportation issues.

The game between the Aggies (3-4) and Eagles (6-2) was supposed to be played at 5 p.m. at Reed Arena. However, on Friday afternoon BC basketball officials alerted Texas A&M that the pilot of their charter flight was concerned about landing in College Station because of high winds.

First, Boston College officials asked that tipoff be moved back to later Saturday evening. A&M officials agreed, but later BC asked the game be postponed until Sunday at 6 p.m. A&M would not agree to that out of consideration to Aggie fans.

The Eagles had the option of traveling on an RJ 145 aircraft. Several American Airlines flights on the same aircraft landed at Easterwood Airport on Friday night.

A&M officials suggested the Boston College charter land in Houston, Austin, Waco or Dallas and then bus to College Station.

“They were supposed to leave (Boston) at 2 p.m. on Friday,” a source with knowledge of the situation said. “They wouldn’t consider alternate airports.

“They quit trying to get here last night about 7 o’clock. They didn’t give much of an effort. They had an option to leave at 7 this morning and said it was too late.”

One question of interest is whether or not Boston College is in breach of contract for canceling the game. If so, financial penalties are a possible outcome.
