Key notes from Sam Adams interview

  • I think Jimbo Fisher is fiery and passionate and we like that. He’s giving them a better chance to win, better than what I thought we were going to have. I thought the QB situation was going to be more difficult than it was, but Kellen has conformed to the system. Next year they are going to be a problem to contain for other teams.

  • I was extremely disappointed in how Mississippi State was able to run the ball on us last week. We are the one that needs to wear teams down with the run game. To throw the ball 46 times is a lot for a young quarterback to handle, especially when you probably haven’t implemented your full playbook yet. When different defenses start to mix up looks, we need to give Kellen more looks and options as he progresses. Defenses will disguise their looks and coverages until the last second.

  • For Kellen, his ability to run the ball is a difference maker. His mobility is a game changer and it allows you to be dangerous in so many areas of the game. But he can’t do it all by himself. We need to get back to running the ball to balance out the offense and be able to covert on those third downs.

  • Everyone wants to look at the record now, they want to win now. I understand that, but a win could be getting in and out of reads, checking into audibles, picking up blitzes, and so on. All of this will come with experience and reps. It’s a fine line knowing when to stay in the pocket and when to take off for a guy like Kellen.
