Rob Childress discusses Aggie baseball's fall season, new faces on roster

Key notes from Rob Childress interview

  • It's been a good fall. We had a great crowd against Sam Houston. We got to go play Rice and get that experience on the road. We have quite a few new faces on the mound and that's been cool to watch the past few weeks.

  • I think these games in the fall are something coaches across the country have wanted for a while. It's good not only for the young guys on the team, but for us coaches as well. You get to see your guys in uniforms, under the lights and how they react. Very pleased with how we performed in both those games.

  • We have a lot of juniors in the program and a lot of sophomores that were in the mix last year. We have guys that understand what it takes day in and day out to compete at a high level. The older guys are setting that tone and the younger guys are buying in.

  • I think our hitting is pretty far along. The first three weeks, the hitters were taking the pitchers' lunch money every day. Since then, the pitchers have improved. I think we have a chance to be very offensive this year.

  • Bryce Blaum was here with us last year, sitting out after transferring in from Ole Miss. He has a high motor and can play all positions on the dirt. He is a good fit at second next to Shewmake.

  • Jonathan Ducoff and Mikey Hoehner are two blessings for our program. We got them this summer and they are great players as well as great people. Ducoff came from Houston Baptist where he was doing well. He wasn't feeling well and thought he had a hernia. He ended up having a CT scan, which isn't normal in that situation, and found out he had Leukemia. He did his treatment throughout the spring while still playing. Now he's here with us and we are absolutely thrilled to have him.

Sounds like Ducoff dodged a bullet. Glad we have him to watch this year.
