SECN's Peter Burns talks Aggies/Tigers, building a dynasty in Aggieland

Key notes from Peter Burns interview

  • The crowd is one of the reasons why I think Jimbo can make a difference here. You have boosters who will spend the money, a coaching staff who is talented, and a fan base that is hungry and ready to roll. This is a win-win-win no matter how you cut it for Jimbo. If you lose a close game, that’s great you lost to a championship team. If you lose big, no one expected you to win, and if you pull off the upset, I can’t even imagine what College Station will be like.

  • This game is 20 times more important for Clemson than it is for A&M. I don’t think any thing really changes with a loss for A&M, but for Dabo you need to win this game, and if you do, you can almost book your flight to the ACC Championship game. The interesting thing is watching Kelly Bryant on the road, people will tell you that he isn’t all that impressive. The pressure is definitely on him going into Kyle Field with 100,000 people in the stands.

  • The pressure is also on Mond in this game. He has to have a clean slate and time to throw the football. Clemson will bring the pressure and Mond has to be given a clean pocket to make smart decisions. I am so pumped for this game this weekend. I would pay $1,000 cash if I could find a way to be in College Station for that game.

  • I think when you watch this Georgia game, South Carolina will go right after a Bulldog team with some issues on the defensive line. I think that with this fast paced tempo that Muschamp does,  it could catch Georgia off guard and turn this into an Oregon-style track meet. Georgia has more athletes, but South Carolina may run Georgia into exhaustion and have a chance. I think Kentucky could upset Florida as well, they have the talent.

  • If A&M wins and the expectation level gets ramped up, I don’t know that Jimbo and his team are ready for that. But, when you think of what could be the next dynasty in college football, I can’t think of a better team to name than Texas A&M. It has that feel of when Saban took over Alabama.

This kind of "too early" publicity is why we can't have nice things. We need to stick with the lovable, scrappy, without ego/SWAG (hate that word) underdog theme for as long as we can.

What an incredible Cinderella story! This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to lead the Aggies in their first big test in Clemson. The normally reserved Aggieland crowd is going wild. He's got a beautiful running game... that's- oh, he ran fast through the hole! He's gotta be pleased with that!

The crowd is just on its feet here. Its the 4th quarter, just seconds remaining, trailing by 4 points. He's a Cinderella boy. Tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last play. He's got about 2 yards to the goal line, and he's got a, ...looks like he's got about a 320 pound running back in there. This crowd has gone deadly silent... Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former Saban protege, now with a chance to win his first big home game against the number 2 team. The snap, hand off, ...it looks like ....it's a touchdown, ...its a touchdown!

A win would solidify the 19 recruiting class and kickstart 20. The hype accompanying a "too early" victory would be a great problem to have.

Yeah I'd really hate to deal with all the blowback we'd get from a home win against the sports media's sweetheart this early in the gauntlet.....
