On the biggest takeaway from the two wins in the Outrigger Tournament...

“Well we got to take away a trophy. As much as anything coming out with two wins to start the season brings a lot of confidence to the team. Going to Hawaii is a really good experience and it might be the only time that many of our players get to visit the 50th state and to be in paradise for awhile. I was really pleased with the professionalism of the team because we did spend several days out on Waikiki but we also trained every morning and played every evening.”

On the importance of getting the Ally Watt and Brittany Crabtree going...

“Well you can look at forwards similar to basketball players. If you’re a shooter, you want them shooting and feeling good about themselves and feeling like they’re bullet proof and invincible. Ally got two goals against Loyola Marymount and Brittany Crabtree are other striker gets two against Hawaii. Those two getting going are bad news for our opponents.”

On freshman Kendall Bates’ performance...

“She might be our most skillful player as a freshman which is pretty cool that, that could even be because we have a very technical team. It’s neat for her too because her big sister, Emily Bates, has been arguably our best player for the last three years so it's neat seeing those two playing with each other. Kendall can play probably five different roles out there, she’s quiet, a great leader and a really wonderful person. She’s that swiss army knife for our team.”

On Friday’s home-opener against BYU...

“I’m most looking forward to the crowd, Fish Camp night is a huge night for us, it’ll be crowded and we don’t ever stop selling tickets. The cool thing about Ellis Field is that we’re one of the only stadiums that has seats all around. We want our opponents to feel like Custer as they walk into the Little Bighorn and know that they are surrounded and in trouble. BYU is used to playing in front of big crowds. The class of 2022, this is the first game to be apart of the 12th Man on campus and so bringing that excitement and passion will help us play. The adrenaline playing behind that crowd is special.

On how the energy of the crowd affects his players...

“Hopefully it’s not the most attended game of the year but it will be because it's the first game. I would imagine we’ll have over 5,000 people there in a stadium that only seats 2,800. The big thing that we will be working on this week is controlling our emotions. That was one of the nice things about playing against Hawaii is that Hawaii packed it in and we were a little bit antsy in the first five minutes and then we settled down and got going. Having that behind us and being able to play in front of a nice big crowd I think will be a nice mix of confidence, poise and really a lot of excitement. I know the girls are really excited for it.”
