Notes from Billy's breakdown on O'Neal

  • First of all, this is a guy who some people wondered if he was worth the drama during the recruiting cycle. But he is absolutely worth it when you were fighting with three of the four teams in the College Football Playoff for his signature. I think even at one point he may have committed to Clemson. When you watch him play, he has a football players mentality which you absolutely need at safety in the SEC. He's up to around 208 pounds, and looking great to play safety. Just looks like a guy who may stay around this size throughout his time at A&M.

  • The questions around LEon were with his speed after some slower performances at some camps, but I don't think that will be an issue. He's out there this summer, doing drills and is just so quick. To sum things up, I don't think the speed will be an issue.

  • He just has that presence about him. If he walked into SEC Media Days in Atlanta in a suit, you would think he is a veteran safety in this league who has been doing it for three years.

  • This is another one of the recruiting battles that A&M will be engaging in during the Jimbo Fisher era. It seems like every recruitin battle A&M is in now is with Alabama, Georgia and Clemson; teams that are in the playoff. They are going to go after who they want and have a really good shot, both in the state and around the country.

  • I think Leon has an impact this year both on special teams and in the secondary. I woudln't be shocked for Leon to be maybe your third safety by the time you take the field against Clemson, and that's with a lot of depth at the position.
