Denton Braswell 2021 offensive tackle Erick Cade‍ currently checks in at 6-foot-7 and 310 pounds, and he bench presses 315 pounds and squats 425. He already holds scholarship offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Tulsa, and he has taken visits to Arkansas, Baylor, Texas, and Texas A&M.

TexAgs.com caught up with Braswell head coach Cody Moore for a little more on his standout prospect.

When was the first time you thought, my goodness we could have something special here?

"Well, I knew immediately. I have all of our middle school guys come up to our varsity field house usually in the spring just to get to know coaches and get in the weight room and things like that. He was one who immediately started coming up every single day to work out and I recognized the work ethic immediately. And to go with that, as a freshman, he was 6-6, 285. I felt, and the rest of our staff felt, he probably needs to play up for us on the varsity as a freshman."

When did you see him start to figure things out on the varsity level?

"We went through two-a-days and we played two games. He played very little in those first two games, but I kept encouraging him to be patient. I wasn’t going to put him out there with him not knowing what to do. I wasn’t going to do anything that would set him up for failure. I would say about the third game he played pretty much the entire game and he never looked back. He played the last eight games and he got better and better each week. "

What qualities other than the obvious size jump out to you?

"The obvious tangibles of size, strength and those things, but I think the biggest thing about him is his class work means something to him and he’s going to take care of business. He’s going to take care of tutorials and things like that when he needs to. And just developing as a player means something to him. He’s going to study and he’s going to work, and he’s going to do all of those things because he understands what could potentially be in front of him."

What has it been like watching the attention arrive?

You know it’s funny. We’re a new school and we didn’t get a lot of traffic our first year because people didn’t really know. But I knew as soon as football season was over I was going to make a 10-play clip and I was going to send it to every Division I college I could get an email address or whatever for, and it was funny. It was within no time that we had all these D1 guys coming to see our place. It’s been good on a number of fronts and it’s been a neat process for him."
