Texas A&M Soccer's season ends with loss to Notre Dame, 2-2 (4-1 PK)

The No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies took to Ellis Field for the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament on Friday, hosting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Ags, riding a school record 14-game winning streak and an 18-2-1 record, took the field oozing with determination and energy.

Both the Ags and the Fighting Irish played with high intensity, but goalkeepers Cosette Morche and Lexi Nicholas kept the game scoreless for the majority of the first half.

In the 36th minute of the first half, Mikaela Harvey rocketed the ball into the back post, putting the Ags on the scoreboard, 1-0.

With 2:26 left in the first half, Notre Dame scored to tie the game heading into halftime,1-1.

In the 82nd minute, Notre Dame’s Natalie Jacobs scored on a penalty kick, giving the Fighting Irish the lead, 2-1.

Emily Bates scored a much-needed goal for the Aggies in the 87th minute to knot the score at 2 goals apiece.

The Aggies and Fighting Irish played two overtimes, but neither team could break through during the extra frames, leading to decisive penalty kicks.

Notre Dame scored on 4 consecutive penalty kicks and held the Aggies to just 1, ending the Aggies' season.
