The Pecking Order: Texas Class of 2019 recruiting rankings update
The 2017 season is just around the corner, and after having a chance to
see several top 2019 prospects in action, the TexAgs recruiting staff
decided to expand the top 50 to 75.
Nothing changes at the top, with quarterback Grant Gunnell holding down the top spot yet again. He has been at the top since our first 2019 ranking, and the future Texas A&M Aggie stays at the top after a solid summer of camps and 7-on-7 action.
The top 6 remains the same, but there is some shake-up in the top 10. Nolan Catholic linebacker NaNa Osafo-Mensah (pictured above) moves up from No. 10 to the No. 7 spot. However, the biggest jump in the top 25 is Aledo ATH Jeffery Carter, who moves from unranked to No. 24.
Other prospects making their top 50 debut are Klein defensive lineman Harrison White (No. 40), Cibolo Steele cornerback Xavier Player (No. 41), Round Rock Cedar Ridge wide receiver Jaylen Ellis (No. 44), Midlothian Heritage wide receiver Langston Anderson (No. 46) and Langham Creek quarterback Chris Herron (No. 47).
Wide receiver Dylan Wright made the biggest move outside the top 25, as he jumped up to No. 35 from No. 50 without having any varsity tape as a wide receiver. However, the former quarterback, who spent 2016 on JV due to transfer rules, did have plenty of eye-opening camp and 7-on-7 performances this summer.
Overall it is clear the defensive line has made a comeback in 2019. The defensive line is represented by 17 total prospects (10 DEs, 7 DTs) in the top 75 to lead all position groups. The wide receivers and defensive backs are next with 13 prospects each, and there are 11 offensive linemen.
