Haley Pounds leads Aggie Soccer to exhibition win over SHSU, 5-0
On the first night of the 2017 season, the Texas A&M Aggies defeated Sam Houston State, 5-0, in an exhibition match at Ellis Field in College Station.
The team’s efficient communication and dynamics were evident throughout the 90 minutes. Ally Watt scored her first goal in exhibition play and provided two assists. Haley Pounds led the team with three goals and seven shot attempts, and Stephanie Malherbe rounded out the scoring with a goal and an assist.
“It’s a really good way to give us confidence. It gives us confidence and shows all of the hard work (we've put in),” Watt said.
Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri was pleased with his team's effort and said Pounds played as well as expected.
“Haley comes in as our leading goal scorer for the past two years,” Guerrieri said. “So she already knows that's her role.”
The Aggies will return to action against Northwestern State on August 10 for game two of exhibition play.
