Notes from Billy's breakdown of Cunningham

  • I think you will see him in the traditional role you saw him in last year. I think he will see a ton of time that traditional 4-3 defensive end position.

  • Were it not for the change in defense, who knows if his patience would have paid off for him. He should benefit a lot this season from sticking around and being a backup. I’ve always had a soft spot for guys who stuck it out. I enjoy seeing guys like that achieve success because they stuck it out and loved the university. When guys like that come to our university, my university, your university, when these players love it so much and are willing to jeopardize other opportunities in their careers because they want to play here and go to school here, I root for guys like that.

  • He is a good player, but I think he is limited in some areas because he’s not as big as his dad, who was a monster. He gets limited sometimes by size. You can minimize that physical disadvantage by changing the way you use him and then there are physical gifts he has that you can take advantage of as well.

  • If guessing I'd guess he will be right around three or four sacks, maybe even get to five sacks as a senior this season. I think he will start and I think when A&M will go base 4-3, Qualen will be your guy.
