It was an important day for the team in maroon and white, but they just couldn't get the job done. No. 5 Texas A&M came up short, losing to visiting Mississippi State in its first conference game of the season on Friday, 5-2.

The Bulldogs threw the first punch of the game in the top of the third inning when Olivia Garden hit a three-run home run. MSU stayed consistent at the plate throughout the game and scored again in the fifth and sixth innings.

Aggie Tori Vidales had a great showing at the plate. She answered back with a solo home run, but that was all the Aggies could muster until the bottom of the 7th. Texas A&M made some noise by loading the bases and putting another run on the board, but it wasn't  enough to put the Ags within striking distance.

“Mississippi State went out and made plays. They did a good job. They made double-plays, and their pitcher went out and did a nice job, too, so they deserved to win tonight,” A&M coach Jo Evans said. “We just couldn’t quite get it done tonight. I liked our fight there at the end, but we have to make some noise a little sooner to take some pressure off ourselves.”

A&M will be back in action tomorrow at the Aggie Softball Complex against Mississippi state at 2:30 p.m.
