RECORDS: Texas A&M (4-0); Lamar (2-2)

It's good to have softball back. It's even better when you start the season off the right way. No. 18 Texas A&M beat the Lamar Cardinals (twice), Central Michigan and Ohio State and this weekend. The Aggies have a perfect 4-0 record to start off the 2017 season.
On Sunday, it was the Cardinals who got to play victim, as the Aggies won a tight contest, 3-2.
The sun wasn't the only thing on fire today; the Aggies bats were hot, too. In bottom of the first inning, the Aggies wasted no time getting on the board as Keeli Milligan walked and stole second. Then Tori Vidales reached on a fielding error by the short stop and recorded an RBI, scoring Milligan and giving the Ags a 1-0 lead right off the bat.
Lamar answered in the top of the second inning, getting three hits, loading the bases and scoring their first run of the game on a bunt to the 3rd baseman.
Heading into the third inning, the Aggies came alive once again with nobody out. Kelbi Fortenberry singled to first base, then stole second. She was followed by Milligan, who singled to left field, which moved Fortenberry to 3rd. Kaitlyn Alderink then got a hit to center field, scoring Milligan and Fortenberry and making the score 3-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Lamar's Sable Hankins reached on a throwing error by the Ags. Kelly Meeuwsen grounded out to second base, and Hankins advanced to third. Paige Holmes flew out to right field and scored Hankins to close the gap to one run.
That was all the Cardinals could manage for the rest of the game.
The Aggies produced early on but struggled to keep their offensive momentum to throughout the day. However, it was enough for the Aggies to walk away with the win at the end of the day.
The Aggies, now 4-0, will be back in action on Wednesday, February 15th at home against the Sam Houston Bearkats at 6 p.m.
