Key notes from Billy Kennedy interview

  • The tape was better than I thought last night.  During the game I was not pleased with some things, but I wasn’t giving Corpus Christi enough credit.  They were making their shots.  I thought we looked sluggish at times from not playing, but we scored 89 points.  I hope we can build off of this.

  • Our big lineup with Tonny (Trocha-Morelos) at the three, it turned in some easy baskets for us.  The length of it gave us some problems and we didn’t guard off the dribble as well as we should’ve, but Corpus Christi had a lot to do with that.

  • Percentage wise, our zone has been really good for us.  We are holding teams to a low field goal percentage and causing more turnovers.  We didn’t play it as much last night as we did against UCLA and Virginia Tech, but Corpus Christi did some good things and they deserve more credit for what they did last night.

  • People are starting to realize how talented Robert (Williams) is.  He is so long and so athletic and next summer he will be something we haven’t seen around here in a while.  He blocks shots, can shoot, and attack the offensive glass.

  • Our guys are learning how to play with Robert.  Timing is a big part of that and usually if you just throw it up he will go get it.

  • Admon (Gilder) is getting more comfortable playing the point guard position.  Basketball just comes easily to him sometimes, but we want him to be a little more vocal and be a little better at guarding the dribble.  He has got some open shots and made them.  We had some guys do some things that were better than I thought last night.

  • DJ (Hogg) is getting better in every area and helping us in some areas that you don’t see in the game.  We would like him to be a little better defensively in his stance, but usually with a shooter like that if you have an off-night it affects you in every other part of the game.  That has happened to an extent with him but he has done a good job of not letting it affect him too much.

  • When Tyler (Davis) gets the ball, he does well.  It is not as easy to get him the ball as you would like it to be and teams are trying to limit him, but he is still playing at a high level.

  • Tonny is playing better at the three than we anticipated.  We have perimeter guys that we want to get playing time, but our best lineup is when Tonny is playing the three.  He is one of the better defenders on our team and he can defend really anybody.

  • Tomorrow I want to see us be more aggressive and more assertive, on both sides of the floor.  I wasn’t real pleased with our defensive intensity and we need to attack the offensive glass better.
