Red-hot Texas A&M volleyball takes down Alabama, 3-1
The Texas A&M Volleyball team opened a four game homestand with a win against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday night. The Aggies had won eight of their last nine matches and extended that to nine out of their last ten.
Texas A&M was able to come out and take the first set from the Crimson Tide, 25-21. Following the first set, the Aggies lost some of their rhythm, and Alabama capitalized by taking the second set, 25-18.
After splitting the first two sets, A&M was able to extend their momentum after storming back to win the third set of the match, 27-25. The Aggies finished the third set by winning nine of the last thirteen points.
“We were a bit lethargic at first with the attacking,” said head coach Laurie Corbelli. “The team vowed to give more energy, and we needed more leadership on the floor and I thought everyone really responded to that.”
The Aggies were able to control most of the fourth set to finish off the Crimson Tide, taking the set, 25-16. Although A&M won the match 3-1, Alabama hung around, keeping the match interesting. Much of their success can be attributed to the play of senior Krystal Rivers who led the Tide with 25 kills. Despite her success, A&M held off Alabama to pick up their first win of the homestand.
Freshman Hollann Hans led the Aggies in kills with 16, and Kiara McGee was close behind her with 14 of her own. Amy Nettles reached 1,000 career digs after finishing the match with a team-high 18.
With the victory, Texas A&M improves to 15-7 overall on the year and is now 9-2 in the SEC. Corbelli was confident in her team and acknowledged the toll that the season starts to take on a program.
“I knew we were a capable team who was capable of winning. I just was not seeing the typical Aggie team out there,” said Corbelli, “but the team just kept encouraging one another and was trying to be more energetic.”
“It is early November with 10 weeks of playing, and the season has been a grind for everyone. This match showed that, and now we can get over the hump with this win and take on Tennessee, who comes in as a really good team that will be a big challenge for us.”

We just didn’t have a very smooth match, but we still fought through and found a way to win. Winning is hard at every level and against everyone you play and every little mistake is crucial.
