COLLEGE STATION - They say chicks dig the long ball. On a breezy Wednesday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex, they were right.

In their 13-9 win over North Texas, the girls in maroon and white manufactured 13 hits, 3 of which were home runs. With the victory, No. 23 Texas A&M pushed its record to 31-10 this season.

While the Aggies ended up with a "W" in the books, the Mean Green made them work for it, starting in the first inning. With two outs in the top of the first, starting pitcher Katie Marks gave up back-to-back solo home runs to the visitors, giving UNT an early 2-0 lead.

Texas A&M made sure that didn't last long, however, taking advantage of two walks and an RBI single by April Ryan and evening the score at 2 after the first.

The North Texas bats were quiet in the second, but the same couldn't be said for the home team. After an Erica Russell walk and a Tori Vidales single, Cali Lanphear stepped up to the plate and blasted a 3-run home run to straightaway center field.

The Aggies rode a 5-2 lead into the fourth inning when Katie Marks surrendered four straight hits in the top half, including a lead-off triple. North Texas ended up scoring 3 runs in the inning, tying the game once again.

Reagan Boenker led of the bottom half of the inning with a single, and two batters later, freshman sensation Tori Vidales brought her home with the Aggies second home run of the night, following Lanphear's lead with her own shot to deep center field.

The Aggies would extend their 2-run lead one inning later in the fifth. In a 2-out rally, 5 singles and a walk produced 4 runs for the home team, giving them a comfortable 11-5 lead heading into the home stretch.

North Texas would go on to score two more runs in the sixth, but Breanna Dozier erased all of that progress in the bottom half with one of the longest home runs of the year. With April Ryan on second base, Dozier laced a ball deep into left-center and the Reed Arena parking lot across the street.

Aggie pitcher Lauren Ainsley gave up two more runs in the seventh, but Rachel Fox took the circle for the Ags to close out the 13-9 win.

The Aggies will be back on the field this weekend, taking on #6 Auburn in a three-game series. The first game will start at 6:30 on Friday.

I'm glad we hit the ball better because we didn't have that many hits the last 4 games. I hope giving up 9 runs is not a predictor of this weekend. I assume Ashley Walters was getting the night off; she didn't even pinch hit.
For those readers who have not seen Tori Vidales hit I recommend stopping by to watch her.
