Notes from my travels
I have been making the rounds lately. On Sunday I was at the Trench Warfare Pass Rush School, and yesterday I visited Keller Fossil Ridge and Denton Guyer. There were no prospects who currently hold Texas A&M offers, but there are a few guys I could see firmly on the radar down the road so let's start there.Denton Guyer 2023 defensive backs Ryan Yaites and Peyton Bowen both stepped up in 2020 when heralded seniors went out with injuries. Yaites stepped in at cornerback when Deuce Harmon went out with injury, and Bowen had to answer the call when S/LB and Florida State signee Jordan Eubanks went out. Both are now firmly planted on college radars and are on track to be the next big recruits out of Guyer. Bowen checks in at 6-1, 185 and Yaites is longer and leaner at 6-2, 175. Both have potential at S and CB. Bowen holds P5 offers from Baylor, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and USC, while Yaites has been offered by Colorado, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and USC. If I'm predicting Guyer's next A&M target, I'm leaning towards these two. Guyer also has another QB on the rise. After spending the last two years behind Eli Stowers, Jackson Arnold is a guy to watch. The 2023 signal caller checks in at 6-1, 195 and while he does not have a ton of film his arm talent is very easy to see. He can spin it, and in the last week he has welcomed offers from Michigan State, Tulsa, and North Texas. He is also a standout on Guyer's baseball team. Fossil Ridge also has a couple of guys I will be watching closely too. 2023 RB Landen Chambers and 2023 OL Lajuan Owens. I first saw Chambers at a Skys The Limit Training Session with coach Margin Hooks, and at 6-0, 200 he was a smooth pass catcher. He has a running back build and that is his position, but I could see him being an intriguing big back option down the road. Owens is another guy I have seen at a few different camp stops going back to his freshman year. When he is on his game the 6-4, 315-pounder is as strong as any in the 2023 class. He projects as an interior OL, but he has been a standout at OT for Fossil Ridge.I saw a few sleepers who I could definitely see emerging on P5 radarsThe first guy I have to mention is OL Kaden Sieracki of The Woodlands. The 2022 standout dominated any and all comers at Pass Rush School and he is 6-7, 325 with a 78-inch wingspan. He has zero college offers but I expect that to change. His footwork and hand placement was on point, and he was one of the nastiest competitors at the camp. I look for the offers to start finding him because he is definitely worthy.Keller Fossil Ridge CB Stephen Nnadozie already has a Kansas offer as well as the service academies, but I can easily see the P5s rolling in once college coaches have a chance to watch him in person. At 6-1, 175, he is long and lean and a fluid athlete. He transitions well and has speed to go with it. Denton Guyer DL Rowan Briggs is another I like. The 6-3, 240-pound defender already has offers from Memphis and Marshall. This fall he always caught my attention when I went to see Harmon and Stowers play. He always seemed to be disrupting things alongside Baylor signee Cooper Lanz. He is a high motor, high intensity guy.Another one I like who I would classify as a deep sleeper is Keller Fossil Ridge wide receiver Daniel Cobbs. He checks in at 5-11, 170 and he spent the majority of his time at S due to team needs in 2020. He runs the sprints and relays on the track team and is also a triple jumper. He is the younger brother of former Fossil Ridge standout and current Boise State receiver Stefan Cobbs, and the Fossil Ridge coaches see similar potential in Daniel. Now for some new names. TE Si Stovall, Denton Guyer (2023) - 6-2, 240 and he can do it all from FB, H-back, TE, flex TEDE Willie Goodacre, Denton Guyer (2024) - 6-4, 230 and he immediately catches the eye. Still a long way to go but I will definitely be watching his development closely.ATH Noah Mergerson, Keller Fossil Ridge (2024) - 5-9, 150, but when they talk about speed at Fossil Ridge he may be the fastest in the programDE Xadavien Sims, Denison (2024) - 6-4, 230, played varsity as a freshman and he has the look of a future high major SEC-level targetDT Chad Otutu, Pflugerville Weiss (2024) - 6-1, 240, explosive and athletic in the middle. I didn't see him lose a rep on Sunday.

A few Wednesday notes and thoughts
*It's not over til it's over attitude - This is not a unique attitude to Jimbo Fisher and his staff, but it is an attitude the Aggies have on the recruiting front. It is also why I always emphasize the fact there is a long way to go when a guy Texas A&M has prioritized seems to start leaning elsewhere. It does not mean it always works out in A&M's favor, but it does mean they don't quit even when things look bleak. There have also been several instances it has played out well. Here's a few from the last few years-When DL Bobby Brown was all but done with A&M and fully committed to Alabama with less than a month before signing day in 2018-When LB Antonio Doyle committed to Mizzou ahead of the 2019 season-When Donell Harris looked like he was all but headed to LSU and then to Florida in the 2020 class-When Akinola Ogunbiyi was committed to Georgia -McKinnley Jackson, Derick Hunter, and several others* LJ Johnson Jr - Does Texas have some momentum? Yes. But, let's not freak out over a few crystal balls. I look for the Aggies to continue to work and remain in the fight for a long time. Coach Fisher and RB coach Tommie Robinson have established a good bond there. You guys know I see Johnson as one of the top priorities for the Aggies in the 2021 cycle, and.losing out on him would be not be ideal. But like I said, there are still plenty of reasons I could see the Aggies being able to swing the momentum back in their favor.*A few guys I could see being offered - I don't have many guys in the 2021 class. I could see OL Cole Carson being a guy to watch though. He has had coach Henson's eye since before the offers started to roll in and before he committed to Arkansas. I've also mentioned Denton Guyer OL Gabe Blair before too. Blair is one of my personal favorites - smart, nasty, strong - but he's on the short side and projects inside as opposed to the OT he's played the last few years at Guyer. If the Aggies look for an interior spot, I could see these guys getting a hard look. In 2022 Brauny has talked about QBs Cade Klubnik and Conner Weigman and LB Justin Medlock. Those would probably be my next in-state 2022s. *A few guys I would like to see offered - I'm beating the drum for DeSoto DT Byron Murphy II (Baylor commit), Austin LBJ S Andrew Mukuba, and Dallas Kimball RB Brandon Epton (SMU commit). Murphy is a wrecking ball in the middle. Mukuba is a smart, rangy, aggressive player on the backend. Epton has a good size, a solid build, and he can be an every down back and contribute on special teams.*A few standouts I've seen recently - I was at the Trench Warfare camp on Saturday and here's a few guys who stood out to me.-OL Lajuan Owens, Keller Fossil Ridge (2023) His feet jumped out to me. He was dancing out there during 1-on-1s and he has some long arms and a nasty streak. He tossed a few guys to the ground with ease.-OL Zavier Leonard, Arlington Sam Houston (2021) at 6-4, 293, Leonard has a flat belly, he's athletic, and he's raw. This is a guy with high P5 potential if he can put the right kind of tape down in 2020.-OL Hunter Erb, Haslet Eaton (2022) big framed, long arms, bends well, light on his feet. I'm quickly becoming a fan. His time will come.-OL Jackson Newville, Allen (2022) mean and nasty and he plays through the echo of the whistle. He trains with former Texas A&M standout Patrick Lewis.-OL Noah Ponce, Fort Worth Nolan Catholic (2023) he's a bit undersized at 6-1, but he is smart and plays with great technique. He's one to watch in that 2023 class.-DE Caleb Mitchell, DeSoto (2024) I know I have mentioned him before, but he is twitchy off the edge and he has people buzzing down in DeSoto.-DL Kaleb James, Fort Worth Nolan Catholic (2023) strong, lean, big framed, I could see him developing into a DT as he continues to grow. -DL Aaron Austin, North Crowley (2022) 6-3, 250 and he has the look of one of those hybrid DLs we have grown to love. He is quick off the ball, he has long arms, already has a stout build, and he showed well on Saturday.

A few Monday morning notes
-I was at an OL/DL Camp yesterday afternoon in DFW with a lot of area coaches and the reports back on coach Henson are really strong. It should come as no surprise he is held in high regard, but it was nice to hear such unanimous praise.-I heard a little buzz on a couple of top 2021 guys. LB Kendrick Blackshire had a great visit to College Station the other weekend, but keep an eye on Alabama. The Tide are very high on his list and Nick Saban has made a very strong impression. From what I was told I would say they are the leaders, and the main competition to Texas A&M right now. The Aggies have been all over RB Camar Wheaton too, and he is high on the Aggies according to sources close to his recruiting. I would not declare any leaders or anything, but I was told the Aggies have made him a high priority and he knows it.-Back to the camp. Most of these guys don't have a lot going on in recruiting right now, but if you're looking for a few under the radar 2020s or some new names to watch I have a few for you. OL Caleb Rogers, Mansfield Lake Ridge (2020) 6-5, 275, big framed prospect with bend and feet. He's hearing from programs like Mizzou and ULM right now.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094736130724057088DT Trayveon Newton, Lancaster (2020) 6-2, 275, and he showed some nice explosion throughout the day. He gets a bit high at times, but he's really coming on. I look for things to pick up in the spring and see him as a P5 prospect.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094727526012850182OL Chinemerem Nnanna, Arlington Seguin (2020) This guy worked at OL all day and he is very skinny for an OL. However, he has tremendous length and he showed well at OT. OL Daimonte Williams, Mesquite Horn (2020) At 6-3, 300, he's a mauler in the middle. Strong, nasty, and he can snap the ball. Kansas State, TCU, and Abilene Christian have come on strong at this point.OL McKenzie Agnello, Copperas Cove (2021) There may not have been a nastier player. I saw him at the Next Level Athlete a few weeks ago and he caught my attention there. He did it again as he finished blocks yesterday.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094722710716977152DT Tommy Dunn, Garland Naaman Forest (2021) Big kid at 6-3, 260, and he showed a nice get off. He's not refined but he has some intriguing tools. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094732283838373889DT Byron Murphy II, DeSoto (2021) Murphy took home DL MVP honors yesterday and at 6-2, 250 he already holds an offer from Colorado. This guy is compact and quick off the ball. He'll have several offers before he's done.OL Kelvin Banks, Humble Summer Creek (2022) The size initially jumped out. He has a big frame, long arms, and he's an athlete with flexibility. During one-on-ones he also showed well. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094718623103488001OL Sheridan Wilson, Argyle (2022) Wilson was light on his feet and played with very good technique. He's light in the seat at 6-4, 235, but he has a great frame. His brother is Oklahoma State signee Preston Wilson.DT Davion Carter, North Mesquite (2022) Compact and powerful are two words that come to mind. He played varsity ball as a freshman and has a 400-pound squat. The 6-0, 280-pounder was impressive.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094729504474443777OL Lajuan Owens, Keller Fossil Ridge (2023) 6-3, 310 and he can move. I know it's young but put this guy on your radar. He was far from out of place yesterday.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/1094717794346823681

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
