Quick hitting Friday night recruiting notes
-As the LB search continues, I continue to hear Vic Viramontes' name being thrown around. Also, an out of state source indicated that Michigan based ATH Jaren Mangham could resurface on the A&M board. He was being recruited at RB and LB, and if you'll remember, his mom ran track at Texas A&M. -New name to watch in 2020 is Hoover (AL) QB Robby Ashford. He's had a dynamite junior season after rebounding from a baseball injury last spring/summer. -2021 OL Reuben Fatheree was not able to make it to Kyle Field last weekend because his father, who's the head basketball coach at Richmond Foster, had to coach. Reuben did express some remorse for not making it from what I understand. He told a source that he knew he missed a classic. Jimmy Turner was by the school this week to visit with Rueben. -If you've been waiting for LB's to emerge in Texas, it looks like 2022 could be the year early on. Howell has talked about Walker Polk out of Coppell, and I just got a tip from a Houston area source about Katy High 2022 backer Ty Kana. He's been getting more snaps at inside linebacker for the Tigers and looks like a future stud. -Not huge news, but I've heard tonight that A&M has offered a PWO spot to local OL and Aggie legacy Reid Francis from A&M Consolidated. Francis currently holds several FCS and a few Ivy League offers.
A few quick notes
The Aggies extended an offer to standout Frisco Lone Star 2020 WR Marvin Mims today. He was offensive newcomer of the year in 2017 and recorded 54 receptions for 1,175 yards and 12 TDshttps://twitter.com/marvindmims/status/986747122509910016https://www.hudl.com/video/3/7767873/59ca8e4eff01c80ce825ba6aTexas A&M also made the cut as 2019 ATH Jaren Mangham trimmed his list to 16. He visited earlier this spring.https://twitter.com/JarenMangham/status/986730454266114048And on the downside, in case you missed it San Bernardino (CA) Cajon 2019 LB Jonathan Perkins committed to Oklahoma earlier todayhttps://twitter.com/Jperkins_21/status/986726175388008448
Recruiting Musings: Texas A&M's massive visit weekend wows targets
Texas A&M hosted a large group of high-profile prospects for its spring game this past weekend, and most came away very impressed with the Aggies. Billy Liucci dives into all the latest developments, including the commitment of tight end Baylor Cupp.
A few defensive recruiting notes
-I spoke with Cinco Ranch LB David Gbenda a little bit. The Aggies were one of his first big offers, and he's seen his stock soar since. He'll make an enormous leap into our next top 100 rankings. He's going to visit Texas this weekend, but the Horns have yet to offer. He hasn't set a date for his A&M visit, but the trip will take place sometime this spring. I feel comfortable calling the Aggies the early favorites here. -Staying at linebacker, the A&M staff has poured out offers across the country, but I've heard the two most responsive/communicative prospects reside across the Sabine River in LSU's backyard. Baton Rouge University Lab teammates Christian Harris and Makiya Tongue have been in pretty regular talks with the A&M staff. I was told by a source that Tongue in particular really had a good time at A&M last month. -A DFW source told me last night that things are trending considerably A&M's way for Aledo DB Jeffery Carter. I'll always defer to Jason when it comes to guys from the Metroplex, but my source had been in contact with Carter recently. -Reaffirmed what I thought about Detroit (MI) ATH Jaren Mangham being recruited at LB. I think he'll come back to A&M this summer and possibly camp with the Aggies. -I can confirm Looch's report about the Ags being in much better shape with Marcus Banks than most previously thought. -Not on defense, but Jordan Whittington told me a little bit ago that he still hasn't decided on plans for the weekend. I'll start a new thread when he tells me what's going on.
Quick note on midweek visitor
I've been told Detroit (MI) ATH Jaren Mangham has left College Station. He snuck in on a midweek day visit. There's a chance he makes other in state stops as well. The Aggies are recruiting him at LB, and I've heard plans are being made for him to return this summer, possibly for camp.
