Our Weak Offensive Line: D/T Development or Recruiting?

247 Composite rankings of each starter in the Offensive Line of each SEC West team:
(Average Ranking) of players in parentheses

Alabama . . . . . . . . . 4, 31, 32, 34, 187 - - - - (58)
LSU . . . . . . . . . . . . 48, 243, 262, 427, 1522 - - - (461)
Mississippi State . . 87, 401, 409, 764, 1027 - - - (538)
Mississippi . . . . . . 347, 485, 541, 573, 865 - - - -(562)
Auburn . . . . . . . . . .113, 224, 256, 634, 2277 - - - (701)
TAMU . . . . . . . . . . 15, 757, 980, 1117, 1164 - - - (807) --- McCollum (1394)
Arkansas . . . . . . . . 230, 501, 584, 604, 2577- - - - (899)

Aggie OL without Kenyon = (1082)

To build for our future, in our 2020 Class we definitely need these three:
93. Chris Morris - - OG, 6-3.5 / 287
97. Garrett Hayes - - OT, 6-5 / 292
138. Ty'kieast Crawford - - OT, 6-5 / 335

For us to be a consistent contender in the SEC West, our OL talent has to be much higher.
Rankings of current OL players with freshman classification:
15, 153, 253, 353, 368, 381, 799 [this is an excellent start!]

Our OL recruiting has been bad, no doubt. We are witnessing the fruits this season.

Most analysis would show that there's no difference between player ranked #800 and #400. Debunks your theory. Sorry.

What about the difference between average of 807 and 58? There's a reason Alabama is consistently top 3 and it starts with their recruiting.

The only analysts that will agree with you are coaches who are unable to recruit players ranked around 400 and unfortunately have to settle for those ranked around 800.

The problem this season has been more on coaching than recruiting. We have had a ton of blown/missed assignments along the LOS and the effects have been noticeable.

Even a lot of that has been on young inexperienced players. Green and Beal. And the second string players when they are in.

First of all, I think the metric of composite rank isn't a good one. I think position rank or composite score would be a better metric but because OP chose to us it here are the Freshman

(RSF)153, 253, 368, 381
(TrF) 15, 453, 799

Avg of 346

According to OPs metric, our upcoming lines should rank closer to LSU than Arkansas. I think we lost some good veteran OL in the last couple of years and our staff haven't gotten the younger players up to speed yet.

It perturbs me that there is always someone who argues that player rankings don't matter.

Just for the heck of it, I looked at the offers given by the colleges that currently have their recruiting class ranked in the Top 8 [Clemson, GA, AL, sips, LSU, OhSt, OU, Aub]

I looked to see how many players ranked by 247C from 400-425 and from 800-825 received at least one offer from one of the above 8 colleges.

400-425: 9 players received a total of 15 offers
800-825: 3 players received a total of 6 offers

Oddity was player #818. He received offers from Alabama, Ohio State, and Auburn. Must be a pretty good player. He turned them all down and committed to Texas A&M University.
Deondre Jackson, RB, 5-10.5, 201, Stone Mountain, GA (I've been there)

Clemson did not offer a single player. Georgia only one.

Deondre Jackson is having a very good senior season. His ranking will go up.

A grad transfer LT would be great.

I'll settle for Chris Morris the Number 3 Guard in the country.

So again by the OP metrics:

(RSF)153, 253, 368, 381
(TrF) 15, 453, 799
Recruits: 97, 239, 455, 587

Now we will have to see who stays and who wins starting time but our oline is starting to look more and more like LSU's talent wise.
