Last week of conference play and only 2 games remain and what a season it's been. We are sitting at the 20 win mark with weeks of volleyball to go! To keep this magnificent run going are next test is tomorrow evening in Gainesville, Florida against a talented and streaky Florida team.
After losing an All American in Kennedy Martin, Florida still came into the season ranked and with plenty of talent. However, their results have been up and down. They picked up a huge win in the preseason over #3 Pitt, they beat Baylor, they beat Tennessee, and they took Kentucky to 5, but they've also had some head scratching losses to Mississippi State, LSU, and South Carolina.
Their inconsistency can be attributed to their hitters. While talented, they have some really off nights. They run a lot of their offense through outside hitter Jordyn Byrd. She has a heavy arm but at times can hit erratically. She hasn't hit over .300 in conference and has hit under .200 6 times. So if we can serve tough and if our block can be consistent like it has been the last few matches then we can throw Florida off their game. They also have one of the best setters in the conference and the country in Alexis Stucky. She is very talented and loves to go for the kill as well. She had a 10 kill match against Auburn and she's had 3 or more kills in 10 conference matches. We must be weary of her at the net and we must do our best to keep them out of system. They also have a dominant middle in Jaela Auguste who they love to get involved offensively. She's up there with Morgan Perkins and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla offensively at that position.
As for us, so much lies ahead. SEC Tournament, NCAA Tournament, seeding, so much, but as a veteran team I'm sure the focus is winning in Florida and taking care of what's in front of them. The best thing to put us in the best situation is to just keep winning. 2 conference games left. Tomorrow at Florida, then Sunday we cap off the regular season at home vs Georgia. A win here and we are locked into the 2 seed in the SEC tournament which will take place a week and a half from now in Savannah, Georgia. Winning will also do us wonders for our seeding in the NCAA Tourney.
Our team has been looking great. After a disappointing loss to Kentucky, the Ags have ripped off 8 straight wins including 5 sweeps. Our block has been looking dominant, our hitting is looking cleaner, Waak has been excellent, and our defense looks great. Jamie had this team rolling at the end of last season and this season looks to be no different. Our ladies are finishing the season strong and with lots of momentum. Let's go pick up a big win at Florida and keep this amazing season rolling!!! BTHO florida!!!
