No. 13 Texas A&M made some waves in Oxford, and the Landsharks seemed more like a fish out of water.

The Maroon & White set the tone for the series against Ole Miss with a 10-6 victory over the Rebels on Friday night.

It didn’t take long for the Aggie bats to get hot on Friday night, as they brought in six runs in the top of the first inning.

“Today we came out and scored a lot of runs early,” said head coach Trisha Ford. “Very happy with that piece of it.”

With only one hit in the bottom of the first, Ole Miss just kept swimming into the second inning with no answer to the Aggies' six runs on the board.

After a walk by her fellow Oklahoma State transfer Tallen Edwards, senior Micaela Wark sent the first home run of the game soaring down the right field line, bringing the Aggies to a nine-run lead.

Wark came to Aggieland looking for a program that would help her break through the ceiling she sat under for the last three years. After finally getting healthy and joining a program that pushed her to new heights, Wark has become a key piece to the puzzle.

So far this season, she has pushed her average to .360, now with 17 home runs this season and 57 RBIs.

“For us, it's keeping our foot on the gas pedal,” Ford said. “You know, pitching-wise, we could have executed in some spots that we needed to.

But at the end of the day, we figured out how to get a win on the road in the SEC.”

The Rebels answered with two runs in the bottom of the second and two more runs in the bottom of the third and fourth, including their first of three home runs in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Sydney Lessentine spun 3.2 innings in the circle, striking out three while giving up eight hits. Sidne Peters relieved her, bringing home the win for the Aggies, striking out a trio of the 10 batters she faced.

“Really pleased with Peters at the end there, I thought she did a heck of a job,” Ford said.

The Maroon & White kept a six-run lead on the Rebels heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Though the Rebels may have responded with a two-run shot in the fifth, the Aggies kept them to a four-run lead to close out the first game of the series.

As the tide went out from under the Landsharks, the Aggies were left standing with the victory.

The Maroon & White will face off against the Rebels on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. CT, and you can stream the game on SEC Network+.
