We should sit Patton today and have him ready for the Tuesday game. Then we would have Prager with more rest for Wednesday assuming we beat OU.

A win today is good for rpi but a possible longer run in the tournament I believe is better for our bubble chance at the baseball playoffs.

No. You are playing the number one RPI team on the road. Provides you the best chance to get a RPI bounce.

Hoover is a neutral site. And the committee is very inconsistent with how they look at conference tourneys and how much they really mean.

Must win today.

We have to win every game we can. Dermdoc hit nail on the head about rpi. The only way we are guaranteed a spot is to win the sec tourney. Just don't think this team is consistent enough to do that. But roll the ball out there and let's see.

We must ride a win streak into the SEC championship or the season is over. Perhaps a close loss in the SEC championship gets us in but that isn't a guarantee.

I dont think winning today matters at all so not a bad idea in my book. I think we have to win the SEC tournament still.

Disagree and agree.

Disagree, in the fact that we should sit Patton. A win today would put us at # 50 in RPI.....not even close to where we need to be.

Agree in the fact that the committee is very inconsistent on how they look at conference tourneys. Therefore to advance to the regionals we must win conference tourney. Take it out of their hands.

Kendall Rogers said that we needed a combination of four wins against Georgia and in the tournament to have a real chance to make it to a regional. After last night, now that's obviously three more.

Has any SEC team ever made it in with a 12-18 conference record??

The only shot we have is to win the SEC tournament, and that is very, very unlikely.

You have no idea what members on the committee value. Some might take into heavy consideration series wins. We would have 5 series wins in conference including 4 over top 15 teams. Add a few more in the SEC Tournament and you just never know.

The run to save our season continues today. Can't lose again until we walk off with that trophy in Omaha!

(Technically we could lose 1 or 2 in Omaha, but I don't want to)

Win today and you likely only need 2 in Hoover

Lose today and you probably have to make the finals in Hoover.

Go all out to win today. Then rest for 2 days and let a combo of Lyons/Rudis/Moss win on Tuesday

I'm pretty sure we have to win today for even a shot.

Winning this game on the road is best for the RPI.

We are not winning the SEC tourney from the 14 seed. Need to improve the RPI as best we can.

Also, we need to build some momentum after Lamkin's great outing.

We lose today, we would be 3-9 in our last 4 SEC series with one looking like the only SEC games Mizzou wins all year. Last weekend is still perplexing.

KR seems very confident that with 3 more wins, regardless of who, we are in. He's been wrong before, and of course D1 will miss a team or two in their final projections, but they are really well connected and have a fantastic track record.

The math is new this year with conference realignment. And the bubble seems awfully weak this year. Do our part and hope that bid-stealers are limited and we still have a chance.

And it should be mentioned, winning in Hoover with the new format is going to be brutal for the teams seeded 10-16, where we'll be.

If we win Tuesday, on Wednesday we'd play someone like UT/Bama/Ole Miss who had an extra day to rest.

If we win that, on Friday we'd get one of the top 4 seeds on full rest. And then to win it all you still have to win Saturday and Sunday.

There's a non-zero chance some of the top teams might rest or reduce the workload of key players so there's that. But even so it will be very difficult for anyone from the 9-16 seeds to win this tournament.

This.

A team seeded 9-16 needs a miracle to win at Hoover. At some point, some less used arms have to come through for you in a big way.

Had we lost yesterday, holding Patton might have been logical. But, with a chance to get a road series win against the number one RPI team, you can't do that. Have to try to win today, then pitch by committee on Tuesday. If you win that one, then you bring Prager back on Wednesday (he had a short enough outing on Thursday that I think that is not too quick of a turnaround. Are we on the side of the bracket that gets Thursday off? If so, then things would fall into place for Lamkin on Friday and Patton on Saturday, so at least you would have a plan for how to pitch to the final (good luck executing that).

Today is a must win...and guarantees absolutely nothing (will be nice to see them win in a probably a no win scenario IMO).

Haven't fully digested history, but even if we win a few in SEC tourney (after a must win today), just not sure this team makes it in regardless. Getting swept by a bad Mizzou was truly the dagger (esp blown away in last 2 games -- don't see being allowed in after that catastrophe which does question our staff's experience and abilities) and not sure field of 64 will allow more than 12 SEC teams in (what's the history there?).

What I've learned about this team is that don't play well under pressure nor expectations (preseason #1 accolades couldn't live under that spotlight, could win a game at tu under Schloss/rivalry pressure, couldn't sweep Mizzou and got swept).

The microcosm of the season...when the spotlight came off, they beat top teams when not expected to win and fell out of the rankings basically (pigs, TN, LSU...we'll see w UGA) and lost when expected to win or under 'ranking' pressure (bama dominated them, Vandy controlled them, UK took 2 of 3 ... all when ranked team).

We need our best chance to win TODAY. Georgia likely to come out angry after being shut out at home yesterday so we need our best.

One amendment to my prior post: If Patton doesn't get off to a great start, we might have a quick hook and go to Moss early. If Patton threw few enough pitches, he might be available for use as an "opener" on Tuesday.

Every year they come up with a new metric to defend their last 4 in and "3 top 15 series wins on the road" sounds like one to me.

Can you imagine how good our resume would look without the sweeps? Just picking up 1 each time instead of getting swept even vs mizzou and we'd be a lock. That's the most frustrating part.

A 12-18 SEC team has never made it and we won't be the first unless we win the tourney. Sure we have some good series wins, but we have some absolutely horrible losses. Plus we have some bad non-conference losses.
RED AG 98

We need either 2 or 3 wins. With the tournament being single elimination, the best chance to do that is to win today.

my personal opinion but for us to get in we have to win today and then win between 3-4 games in hoover. if we win today and make the semis or better in sec tourney i think we just make it in. but we are going to need to win today. we lose today we have to win the sec tourney to get in.

With the super conference, even teams with 7-16 SEC record in softball and 6-12 in men's basketball made the tournament. 13 wins was really what we needed bc our bad pre-conference, but a couple SECT wins would get us there.

Our RPI is 55. Win today and it is 50. Not getting in with that kind of RPI. Sure we have some big series wins. However, we have some butt ugly losses including four Quad 4's. Only four teams in top 60 RPI have (4) Quad 4 losses. Us, East Tennessee St. and Charlotte.
