We could really use a sweep this weekend. 5-1 in our remaining games and I'm more comfortable. 4-2 and we sweat a little bit with respect to hosting.

Updated conference series below:

At 4-2 there is 0% chance we don't host. At 18-12 in SEC you are hosting. Sure the RPI may not be too 16. But a top tenish ranking, 8 straight sec series wins and one of the best records against ranked teams in the country will be virtually impossible to leave out of the hosting field.

I think you are probably correct and it'll sort itself out. My only real hesitation was how tight the second tier of the SEC is bunched up right now. Looking a little closer at what remains:

  • UT already has 18+ wins
  • Pigs are a virtual lock to get there
  • LSU and the Ags both have a reasonable chance shot and I think both get it done. Ags schedule is certainly easier and I give them better odds (both MS schools vs Miss/Vandy for LSU), but both need just 4 wins. A sweep for either team this weekend is obviously massive to help create some distance.
  • 2 other teams can get to 18 by going 5-1 (Auburn and UGA). Don't see it.
  • 1 team (Vandy) gets there by finishing 6-0, sweeping Pigs and Cajuns. Really don't see it.

So the point of all that nonsense above is simply that the middle of the SEC is still wide freaking open. Even when considering their remaining opponents, up to 6 teams *can* still reach 18+ wins and make it really difficult on the committee. I think this is highly unlikely, and in the end think it's the Vols, Pigs, Ags and LSU that reach 18. And the SEC gets 3 national seeds and 5 hosts.

What are the tiebreaker rules for SEC Tournament seeding? If the season ended today, would we get the 3 seed over LSU because we beat them head to head? Or would they get it based on overall record?
jkag89
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Head-to-Head but it could get a little more complicated than that. Really does not matter that much as long as the Ags finish in the top 4 since these teams get a bye.

Quote:

The two division champions shall be automatically seeded number one and number two based on winning percentage in conference competition. The rest shall be seeded numbers three through 12 based on winning percentage without regard to division.

Ties will be broken in the following manner:

1. Two-Team Tie. The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken:

A. Won-lost results of head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.

B. If two-teams are divisional opponents:
(1) Won-lost percentage within their division (over the 18-game SEC division schedule).
(2) Won-lost percentage of the two teams versus the No. 1 team in their division (and proceeding through the No. 7 team, if necessary).

C. If two teams are not divisional opponents:
(1) Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed using common opponents only (and proceeding through the No. 12 seed, if necessary).
(2) Coin flip by the Commissioner

2. Three-Team Tie (or more). The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken: (Note: If the three tied teams have three different records against each other, they shall be seeded in best-percentage order.) Otherwise, once the tie has been reduced to two teams, the two-team tiebreaker procedure will be used.

A. If all three teams are common opponents: Total won-lost percentage of games played among the tied teams.

B. Won-lost percentage of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed and proceeding through the No. 12 seed, if necessary, using common opponents only.

C. If three or more teams still are tied, the Commissioner will conduct a draw.

Thanks! And I agree as long as we're top 4 I'm happy, gets us at least two games that would be an RPI bump.

Tennessee has clinched the East, they're 7 games up on UGA with only 6 to go. Their magic number to clinch the SEC regular season title is 3.

Arkansas' magic number to win the West is 5. They can clinch the division this weekend if they sweep Vandy and both A&M and LSU lose 2/3.

first objective this weekend ---> winning State series

second objective ---> Georgia falls out of national seed and/or host consideration. Go Vols.

third objective ---> Auburn falls out of national seed and/or host consideration. Roll tide.

and we'll see how the dust settles after that

Vandy beats arky despite rally coon, ags crawl closer to 1st in the west. Auburn beats Bama and crawls with us.

UT has taken 2 from Georgia already.

Tech beat pokes keeping themselves and purple Baylor in contention for the b12 title however. Okst is mostly guaranteed to host, but if they lose the title they might not be a national seed and it opens the door for one or both tech/tcu to steal a host spot.

I hate delays this early in the game because of what is does to the pitching. Ole Miss leading the Tigahs 4-2 but only B3. Be great to win more games than LSU this weekend...

okay, it's late Friday night...

first objective is off to a good start with the Ags' nail-biting win.

second objective looks great thanks to Tony V. and the Vols. Georgia at 13-13 in the league.

third objective looks shaky as Auburn wins the opener.

bonuses tonight: the aforementioned Vandy win over Arkansas, and DBU losing another MVC game
